About Government Documents

Sturgis Library has open access to a collection of over 100,000 federal and state publications. As a selective federal depository library for the Eleventh Congressional District, this collection is open to the general public. The library collects materials in broad areas ranging from business to health and medical topics. The library selects materials in various formats such as paper, microfiche, and CD-ROM. Because many of the government documents are in various formats, they are also shelved in different areas such as reference, microform rooms or with periodicals. Federal agencies have created a variety of websites on the Internet to provide information, including full-text of their publications. Kennesaw faculty and students doing research can locate government documents housed in the library through the Library Catalog. This catalog shows library's holdings, current location, and status of materials.

Location of Documents

The various government publications owned by the library are shelved in three areas. The third floor of the library houses paper documents. Look for the blue shelves in the stack area behind the elevators. Documents in microform are housed on the third floor adjacent to the print collection. Many federal documents are available only in CD-ROM format. Compact disks, such as the National Trade Data Bank, can be found in the microform area on the first floor of the library. For assistance, ask at the reference desk.
