About Technical Services
The Technical Services Department directly supports the library's mission to serve the campus community by providing materials and access to them in a timely and efficient manner.
The Acquisitions & Serials Unit:
- Is responsible for ordering and receiving new materials in print and digital formats.
- Maintains acquisitions-related workflow data in the Integrated Library Management System (Voyager™).
- Manages the commercial binding of journals, theses and portfolios; for more information on this process, call 770-423-6196.
- Creates and maintains bibliographic and holdings records for serial titles in the library's catalog.
- Manages the acquisitions of gift titles.
The Cataloging Unit:
- Is responsible for establishing copy and original cataloging of library material in adherence with national standards that ensure accurate and effective access to information resources.
- Performs ongoing authority control work for the purpose of establishing consistent catalog headings and cross-references.
- Processes cataloged items in as timely and cost-effective manner as possible.
- Maintains the library's online catalog and updates records in the national bibliographic utility OCLC for purposes of establishing record ownership and resource sharing (e.g. Interlibrary Loan).
- Coordinates with the Georgia Interconnected Libraries (GIL) system on initiatives such as the Universal Catalog.
The Processing Unit:
- Processes and preserves the library's titles.
Hours
Technical services is open Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm.
