Loueke Trio

Lionel Loueke’s musical style represents a mixture of his West African heritage, blended with traditional jazz elements and modern compositional techniques, creating an artistic voice that is truly unique. Legendary pianist and composer Herbie Hancock described Loueke as “fearless,” and stated, “I’d never heard any guitar player play anything close to what I was hearing from him.” Loueke’s recent solo debut album, “Karibu”, was released by the prestigious jazz label Blue Note Records and he also appears on Herbie Hancock’s “River: The Joni Letters,” the 2007 Grammy award-winner for Album of the Year. A graduate of the Berklee College of Music and Thelonius Monk Institute for Jazz in Los Angeles, Loueke has received critical acclaim from the notable jazz publications Downbeat, JazzTimes and Jazzwise (United Kingdom), as well as the New York Times.
