Dane Philipsen

Artist-in-Residence Oboe and English Horn



Dane Philipsen is the principal oboist for the Atlanta Opera and the Georgia Symphony Orchestra, and he teaches oboe at Emory University. He is also a founding member of the Morningside Chamber Musicians in Atlanta. In the past, Philipsen played oboe and English horn for the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestra from 2003 until 2006. Additionally, he has been heard with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Kansas City Symphony, the Phoenix Symphony, the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, and the New World Symphony.


Philipsen graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 2006. While there, he studied with Tom Berry. He continued his studies with Martin Schuring at Arizona State University where he completed his Master of Music studies in 2008.
