Tamara Livingston
Lecturer in Ethnomusicology
Dr. Tamara Livingston is a Visiting Lecturer in Ethnomusicology in the Department of Music and the Director of the Department of Archives and Records Management at Kennesaw State University. Dr. Livingston received a Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology, an M.M. in Musicology and a Master of Science in Library Science degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She received the Bachelor of Music degree in classical guitar performance from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Prior to coming to Kennesaw State University, Dr. Livingston taught at Duke University, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and Washington University at St. Louis (Missouri).
Her primary areas of interest are Brazilian popular music and amateur music-making. She is co-author of the book Choro: A Social History of a Brazilian Music written with Dr. Thomas Garcia and published in 2005 by Indiana University Press. She is also the author the article "Music Revivals: Towards a General Theory" published in the journal Ethnomusicology (43:1 Winter 1999).
Dr. Livingston teaches "Introduction to World Music" each year in spring.
