Welcome
What a pleasure it is to say welcome to the Kennesaw State University School of Music. It is a wonderful place to be and I am delighted to now be a part of it. After having had the pleasure of working at Virginia Tech and the Universities of Alabama and Oregon, I am thrilled to be at this fine institution. As you may already know, KSU is the third largest university in Georgia and only continues to grow.
It is a dynamic place to be for music and all the arts. In the last two years, we have seen the completion of the Bailey Performance Center and the Wilson Annex (new studios). Combine these with our wonderful faculty and you have a special place to study music. In addition to our fine residential faculty, you will find that many of the studio teachers perform with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Atlanta Opera and other professional arts organizations.
The last few years in the School of Music have been exciting, especially thanks to the previous chair’s efforts. We have an impressive young orchestra that is flying, along with opera and jazz programs that are expanding. These are in addition to the already fine choirs and bands. Our graduates are getting excellent teaching positions and are going on to fine graduate schools. Finally, we have a wonderful partnership with the Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, the largest such youth program in the Southeast.
If you put these factors together with an incredibly supportive administration at Kennesaw State University, how could I not come? The College of the Arts Dean Joseph Meeks has had an incredible vision. His leadership in music, theatre and the visual arts is special, in addition to his almost 40 years of service to music and this institution.
Its credentials are impressive. In addition to being accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music and having the All Steinway School designation, we have a wonderful group of students who are eager to learn and want to make a difference, regardless of their major. It is a special collaboration of faculty, students and professional staff, and a warm and supportive environment at KSU that makes this place so attractive.
We invite you to visit us. It is a great place to immerse yourself in music.
