or fweyand@kennesaw.edu Kennesaw State announces approval from BOR to double its campus housing
units; The University System of Georgia Board of Regents this week approved Kennesaw State University's proposal for construction of a second phase of student housing. Phase II will consist of 750 beds located on the north end of campus, plus 250 beds in a renovated student apartment complex near campus. The newly constructed complex will be available for occupancy in fall 2004. "The objectives of Kennesaw State with regard to student housing have always been academic quality and student success," President Betty L. Siegel said. "This second phase will continue our strategy of providing not just housing, but a true living and learning community for our students." Conceived as the premier choice for freshmen, the design for Phase II is meant to further KSU's commitment to fostering a collaborative, living-learning environment for its students. In addition to the living space, a commons building and retail space will be part of the complex. The new construction will take place on what is currently a paved parking lot. To accommodate parking needs brought about by the loss of this lot, KSU is expanding the east parking deck and adding another parking lot this summer for a net increase of 600 parking spaces. A public-private partnership between the Kennesaw State University Foundation and Kennesaw State University is allowing the development of Phase II. ### Kennesaw State University is a comprehensive, residential institution with a growing student population of 15,600 from 123 countries. The fourth largest state university out of 34 institutions in the University System of Georgia, KSU offers more than 55 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
