VISION

  • To promote a campus climate that will cultivate an interest and proficiency in pursuing and managing external funding


GUIDING PRINCIPLES

  • Provide the KSU community with leadership in sponsored program development, administration, and compliance

  • Offer services that are responsive to the needs of the KSU community

  • Provide differential assistance to the KSU community based upon individual needs and experiences with sponsored programs

  • Facilitate the pursuit of external funding related to research, creative activity, instruction, and community service


SERVICES

  • Provide faculty and staff with timely information on funding opportunities

  • Provide faculty with proposal-writing support

  • Process and submit proposals in an accurate and timely manner

  • Provide proposal budgeting guidance based on PI needs, agency guidelines, and University policy

  • Maintain a user-friendly and informative web site

  • Work with Deans and Department Chairs in meeting their needs and those of their faculty

  • Analyze federal funding trends as they relate to research and program strengths of KSU

  • Assist in the logistics of large-scale interdisciplinary proposals

  • Provide guidance on the preparation of sponsors’ forms and assurances

  • Identify and interpret sponsors’ guidelines and regulations

  • Identify department and college funding priorities

  • Maintain an archive of proposals and awards

  • Provide reports on proposals and awards

  • Review and approve proposals, budgets, agreements and subagreements

  • Verify that appropriate regulatory approvals and assurances are in place

  • Communicate information about sponsors and funding opportunities to faculty, department chairs, and deans in support of faculty research interests and institutional goals

  • Negotiate acceptable terms and conditions with sponsors who want to contract with the University

  • Verify that appropriate facilities and administrative cost rates are being requested and used

  • Monitor web sites of agencies with technical report tracking databases

  • Monitor compliance with research policies and procedures

  • Develop faculty skills in electronic proposal submission

  • Interact with sponsoring agencies and other KSU offices on the behalf of faculty

  • Develop and update grant, contract and compliance policies and procedures

  • Publish a quarterly newsletter – Funding Forum

  • Offer alternative funding sources and rewrite assistance

  • Obtain Authorized Organizational Representative’s signature on proposals and contracts

  • Write and negotiate agreements and subagreements

  • Establish grant accounts and budget records

  • Provide accurate and timely financial reports for grants and contracts

  • Monitor grant and contract expenditures for compliance with sponsor and University policies and regulations

  • Act as a liaison with other University offices

  • Prepare and submit fiscal reports to agencies

  • Oversee billing and collection of funds for grants and contracts

  • Maintain auditable grant and contract records

  • Meet with project directors throughout the grant/contract cycle

  • Work with project directors to secure time and effort and cost-sharing information

  • Provide workshops and training sessions on all aspects of securing and managing external funding
