Carpools

The Carpool and Vanpool program at KSU is growing and evolving. We will be adapting the policies and resources supporting this program as needed to better serve this user group.

Faculty/Staff

If you are in a carpool you can get a permit to park in designated carpool spaces that are provided in many of our lots. We always try to keep the number of spaces at or slightly above the number of carpools. Vanpools always get dedicated spaces. Faculty/Staff carpool spaces are in lot C.

As with all parking on campus, the carpool spaces are available on a first come first served basis. If there is not a carpool space available you may park in a regular space.

The Policy for Faculty/Staff Parking Fees for carpool riders is that they only need one parking pass that is shared among the riders. Whoever drives on a given day has to have the pass in their car. The more people there are in the carpool the better the deal.

Commuter Student

There is no parking fee break for students participating in a carpool. The fees are mandatory and cannot be changed without Board of Regents approval. Student carpool spaces are in Lots A & D. Additional spaces can be arranged as more people sign up for carpools. As with all parking on campus the spaces are available on a first come first served basis and must be in a lot appropriate for your parking sticker. Click here to sign up for student carpool on-line.

Vanpools

Vanpools are handled slightly different. Each Vanpool has a specific spot they get to park in located near the work location of the driver. The Vanpool does not need to pay a parking fee. Since it takes at least 7 people to start a Vanpool the savings in parking spaces more than offsets the loss of one parking fee and greatly reduces the demand on our parking.

Each rider in the Vanpool or carpool will be given one free parking day per semester with the option to purchase additional days at half the visitor parking rate as needed. This will allow the riders to bring their car to campus on those few occasions when they have a doctors appointment or other personal business (contact parking@kennesaw.edu to arrange for your free parking day pass). In addition the Cobb Rides program (www.cobbrides.com) provides a guaranteed ride home program for all registered participants.

Handicapped Parking

KSU provides handicapped parking spaces in every parking area that is close to any building. Every lot is in compliance with State and Federal regulations and, for the total campus, we exceed the required number of spaces.

Students who need to access the Handicapped spaces in Lot C can contact the Disabled Student Support Group located in the Student Center (room 269) to arrange for access. We have also provided Cobb County Transit with access cards for their shuttles that transport disabled students to KSU. These spaces are on a first come first served basis. If they are full you cannot use a Faculty/Staff space.

There is a no tolerance policy in effect for illegal parking in handicapped spaces. If you do so you are subject to immediate towing. KSU has arranged for specialized tow services that can operate inside parking decks.
