Dwight David Eisenhower (1953- 1961)

Dwight D. Eisenhower was offered the nomination of President by both parties and turned them down.  Eisenhower felt that politics was a profession, one he did not think he was qualified for.  The only experience Eisenhower had was in the military.  Eisenhower looked upon the Presidency as a noble and complicated job.  The American public identified with Ike as a father figure and national war hero.  A poll in 1952 by Roper “found that Eisenhower was the most admired of all Living Americans.”
