Required
courses for this program total 15 semester hours. By
wisely selecting elective courses, the ADR Certificate requirements
can be incorporated into most degree programs.

3325 - Intercultural Communication
A
study of cultural and communication variables that impact
the interaction processes between peoples. Multiculturalism
is examined during the time communication participants share
ideas, information, persuasion and emotions.

4410 Cultural Anthropology: A Global Perspective
The
comparative study of human cultures and societies through
use of cross-cultural analysis of human behavior and coase
studies. Major foci are comparisons between universal and
culturally relative aspects of human behavior, comparative
social organization, cultural change and adaptation, and contemporary
global cultural problems.

3400 - Negotiation
An
examination of the theory and practice of negotiation.
In addition to reviewing readings, students will participate
in simulations and discuss negotiations cases to broaden their
negotiating techniques.

4410 - American Legal System or [POLS 3300 US CONSTITUTION and COURTS]
Basic
concepts of American law, judicial selection, the legal profession,
court systems, criminal justice and judicial behavior.

4470 - Alternative Dispute Resolution
A
survey of the theory and methods of alternative dispute resolution
and conflict management, with simulation in facilitation,
mediation and negotiation. Basic skills will be taught.

4480 - Practicum in ADR
A
capstone course designed to meet requirements for the Alternative
Dispute Resolution Certificate Program by integrating the
student's prior training in alternative dispute resolution
via on-site applied settings. Students will be given
applied experiences in selected public or private organizations
in the community or in campus-related programs to make use
of their ADR training.
