Workplace violence, terrorism, war, divisive public controversies, acrimonious divorces...
Unresolved these issues impair productivity, drain public resources, and devastate lives. Conflict Management addresses the issues that divide our world by encouraging communication, fostering positive relationships, and developing comprehensive, long-term solutions to conflicts.

The Master of Science in Conflict Management (MSCM) provides individuals with the knowledge and skills to be effective conflict management practitioners. The MSCM program uses a three-pronged approach to teaching professionals conflict management skills.

1. Theory: Led by accomplished professors, you will explore the concepts, models, and philosophies that form the backbone of the conflict management field. MSCM professors excel at making this information accessible by tying it to real world examples.

2. Research: Contemporary case studies, needs assessments, quantitative and qualitative research methods, and program evaluation play an integral role in the MSCM curriculum. You will learn the skills needed to plan for and evaluate a conflict management intervention—whether that means corporate negotiations, family mediations, or international ethnic conflict—or to pursue advanced academic studies.

3. Practice: The MSCM curriculum incorporates training opportunities specifically designed to help you develop a practical skill set and gain experience with “real-world conflict.” By participating in clinics, role-plays, and internships you will gain the experience employers are looking for. The MSCM program also includes participation in a professional conference or study abroad program.

Admission Requirements
The MSCM operates on a cohort model and accepts students for both Fall Semester and Spring Semester. The application deadline for Spring 2010 is October 1, 2009. Contact us to receive an MSCM application packet!

Courses
Each semester you will take a series of theory and research courses complemented by at least one practice-based course. For example, the first semester introduces basic conflict management models and techniques, such as negotiation, and is capped off by a 28-hour mediation training.

Financial Aid
We strongly recommend that MSCM students apply for financial aid. There are three primary forms of financial aid available to MSCM students: Federal Financial Aid (loans), Graduate Research Assistant positions or other on-campus employment, and scholarships. The majority of MSCM students, including international students, receive some form of financial aid.
