Dear Potential Applicant,

First of all, let me congratulate you on seeking out a graduate program in Conflict Management. This is an exciting, growing, and diverse field of study and work. I hope you will consider the potential this field has to offer to you and your future career plans. Embarking on a graduate degree is a big decision and we encourage you to make that decision carefully.

I am very proud of our program. We are in our eleventh year of taking students and have been able to attract many very qualified people to the program. In this program you will find people from all disciplines, with markedly varied interests and experiences, and with very different career goals. In other words, one of the strengths of our program is that you will have the opportunity to interact in the classroom with a wide variety of people, all of whom are interested in studying and practicing Conflict Management. This wealth of diverse knowledge that our students bring to the classroom adds much to the learning experience. We also offer a program that is well-rounded in terms of theory, research, and practice, and well balanced in the different realms of the field: interpersonal, small group, workplace, ombudsry, environmental, social, societal, intercultural, and international. In our program you will also receive over 100 hours of practical skills-based and hands-on training. These will be skills you can take back to your current employer to utilize immediately or use as a basis to change your career.

I encourage you to look at the value-added benefits our program offers: 1) we meet on weekends so that there will be minimal interruption in your work week, 2) we furnish your books, class materials, and meals while you are here on campus as part of your tuition, 3) we take the entire cohort on an annual trip, either to a conference or an international experience, 4) we include membership in the Association for Conflict Resolution and a subscription to their professional journal, 5) a graduation banquet, and much more.

Please look through the enclosed materials. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact our Program Manager, Benjamin Smallwood, at 770-423-6637. We look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,

Dr. Linda M. Johnston
