Just glancing at the newspaper provides plenty of reasons why conflict management professionals are needed. Every field, from medicine to diplomacy and labor-management to education, has conflict. Very often these conflicts escalate, becoming so destructive they end up on the evening news.

Program of Study
The MSCM program uses the cohort model. All MSCM students take the same courses and students admitted in the same semester will graduate together. Each semester combines a courses in theory and skills-training. The MSCM also includes a supervised internship or field project. The fourth and final semester of the MSCM program focuses on creating opportunities for students to gain experience and build their portfolios. This semester includes an advanced skills-training, participation in a conference or study abroad program, and plenty of time for students to complete a supervised internship.

For the fourth semester advanced skills-training course, students are able to select from a variety of subjects. The selection changes each semester, but past topics have included Program Evaluation and Grant Writing, Facilitation, and Domestic Mediation. This intensive course focuses on honing the student's skill in their area of interest.

For many students the highlight of the MSCM program is participating in a professional conference or study abroad program during their final semester. Past cohorts have been able to choose from a variety of field experience programs, including the Association for Conflict Resolution Conference, the University for Peace in Costa Rica, and a cultural exchange in Egypt, among others.

Financial Aid
The majority of MSCM students receive some sort of financial aid. For example, MSCM students have received Graduate Research Assistant positions, private scholarships, and federal student loans.
