ORIENTATION
New student orientation is designed to assist new freshmen and the transfer
student in making the transition to Kennesaw State University. Orientation
sessions provide an opportunity for new students to meet and talk with
current KSU student leaders, staff, and faculty and learn about the services
and educational programs offered. Once a student is accepted for admission,
orientation information concerning dates, times, cost, and location is
sent by the Counseling and Advising Program Services (CAPS) Center. For
further information, contact the CAPS Center at 770-423-6600 or visit
the CAPS website at www.kennesaw.edu/caps.
ADVISEMENT
- Advisement is available
for all students. Students are strongly encouraged to consult with their
advising contact prior to registering for classes. See the appropriate
section below to determine the appropriate advising contact.
- Students are ultimately
responsible for scheduling their classes. Advisors are available to
assist students in selecting courses in order to meet the core curriculum
and program of study requirements.
- It is important
that students read the university catalog to familiarize themselves
with the core curriculum, degree requirements, course prerequisites,
academic standing and other related information. Catalogs can be purchased
in the University Bookstore.
- DECLARED MAJOR
STUDENTS
- Learning
Support

J. Coles College of Business - Undergraduate
All business majors will be advised by members of the Coles College Advising Team. Walk-in hours for advising (no appointment needed) are available each week during the semester, with expanded hours during registration periods. The members of the Advising Team and their walk-in hours are available at the information desk for the Business Undergraduate Advising Center outside BB 239. Plan ahead – DON’T WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO SEEK ADVISING HELP!!
Students must meet current course prerequisites regardless of when they started at KSU. Check for current prerequisites by looking at the current KSU Undergraduate Catalog, which is online at www.kennesaw.edu – click on “Current Students” and then “Shortcuts to” the Catalog. To request an override for any business course (either a prerequisite override or a closed course override), you must use our online Override Request Site. This site generally opens a few days before registration. You can find it at the Coles College website (http://coles.kennesaw.edu). Click on “Current Students,” then “Undergraduate Programs,” and then “Override Requests.” This process applies to both business and nonbusiness majors. Override requests will be processed in the order received. Please remember that prerequisite override requests will not always be granted. Your file will be reviewed, and a prerequisite override will be approved only if you have satisfactory preparation for the course you are requesting.
Business majors must apply for and be accepted into the Coles College Professional Program in order to take upper-division business courses. The application form must be submitted to the Business Undergraduate Advising Center – it cannot be submitted online. If you have not been accepted into the Coles College, there will be no prerequisite overrides granted for any 4000-level business courses, and only a limited number possible for 3000-level business courses. Plan your schedule well so you do not need to request prerequisite overrides.
