Registration

Below are some Frequently Asked Questions regarding Registration. Click on the question to see the answer.

  1. Can I register by phone or in person?

How do I find my Pre-assigned Registration Time?

During Priority and Final Registration, students who are eligible for registration will be assigned a specific registration time. Students may register at their assigned time or anytime after that time, until that phase of registration closes. The pre-assigned times are usually posted about a week prior to the beginning of Priority and Final Registration (see academic calendars for registration dates).

To see your pre-assigned registration time, once they have been posted, you have two options.

OPTION 1

  • Log in to Owl Express
  • Click on Student Services and Financial Aid
  • Click on Registration
  • Click on Registration/Fee Payment
  • Go to the bottom right corner of the Registration page, make sure the term is set for the correct semester and click the "Select Term" button.
  • If you are eligible for that phase of registration, your pre-assigned registration time will be displayed. The times are usually set to be displayed about one week prior to the beginning of Priority and Final Registration.

OPTION 2

  • Log in to Owl Express
  • Click on Student Services and Financial Aid
  • Click on Student Records
  • Click on Academic Transcript. This will display your "Advising Guide". There is a box in the top portion that will give you information regarding your registration time and date for the CURRENT semester. You will not be able to see the next semester until the current term has been closed.

How are Registration Times Determined?

The pre-assigned registration times for Priority and Final Registration are determined by ranking all students eligible for that particular phase of registration by the number of hours (both KSU and transfer) that show in their record. Your registration time will be determined by the number of hours you have and the number of students that are eligible for that phase of registration.

  • Graduate students are ranked before Undergraduate students.
  • Students on probation are not allowed to register during Priority Registration.
  • Students are assigned registration times between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.
  • Registration times are in 15 minute intervals.
  • If at all possible, registration times are not assigned on the last day of registration.
  • Students that register during Priority Registration and are dropped for non-payment are placed at the end of Final Registration.
  • There are more students assigned in the opening days of registration than the latter days because upperclassmen typically have more courses to choose from.

Kennesaw State uses this system because it is more fair than assigning times alphabetically or randomly by Social Security numbers or KSU ID numbers. Our system allows students to register according to their academic seniority. Each student, as they progress through their academic career, will move up the time schedule for registration.

What do I do if the system tells me I don't meet the pre-requisite for a course, but I think I do?

If you are trying to register for a course and the registration system tells you that you do not have the necessary pre-requisite for that course, you should contact the department that offers that course. All pre-requisite overrides are handled by the department that offers the course.

How can I register for courses if my transfer courses haven't been evaluated yet?

It typcially takes 2-8 weeks for your transcripts from your previous institution(s) to be officially evaluated. If you are a new transfer student and your transcripts have not yet been evaluated, you should contact an advisor in the department of your major. Click here for a list of department phone numbers. If you have not yet decided on a major you can be advised by the CAPS office. If you are going to register without being advised then you should avoid taking courses that look like courses you have taken at your previous institution(s).

You can do your own "unofficial" transfer evaluation by using our Transfer Course Equivalency Database.

  • Go to www.kennesaw.edu/registrar
  • Click on Transfer Evaluation on the menu on the left side of the page.
  • Click on the first link "Information regarding...". This will take you into the database.
  • Choose your previous institution's state from the list.
  • Choose the institution name from the list.
  • Decide whether you want to see all courses or just courses in a particular subject.
  • Your previous institution's courses will be listed on the left and the KSU equivalent will be on the right.

By comparing your previous courses to courses that KSU generally accepts you may be able to better plan what courses to take your first semester at KSU.

How do I get my "user ID"/"KSU #" or PIN? OR My "user ID"/PIN has been disabled, who do I call?

Your "user ID" is your KSU#. It is a 9-digit number, that is not your social security number. If you do not know your number there is a link on the KSU homepage "KSU# and NetID# Lookup". This link will take you to a page where you can answer a couple of questions and find out your KSU#. Every student has a KSU#.

Your PIN, or Personal Identification Number, is a 6-digit number. It is initially set to your birthdate in the following format MMDDYY. Once you are logged in the system, you will have the opportunity to change your PIN at your convenience.

If you have fogotten your PIN, or used the wrong PIN more than three times, you will be denied access to the Owl Express system and will not be able to register. In order to have your PIN reset you will need to enter your KSU# and then click the "Forgot PIN?" button. The system will ask you your password security question. If you answer it correctly, it will allow you to set a new PIN.

If you are still having problems, you should call the Registrar's Office at 770-423-6200.
