Course Waitlisting Instructions

Course waitlisting is available for selected course sections at the time of registration. Waitlisting allows a student who meets all course registration requirements (including prerequisites and co-requisites) to be placed on a waiting list for a selected closed course. The waitlisting registration process operates on a "first come first served" basis. After a student waitlists for a course section and a seat becomes available, an email notification is sent to the student’s KSU email account. The student will have 12 hours (previously 24 hours) to register for the course section from the time the email notification was sent. Students may view their position on the waitlist on Owl Express. Students who waitlist for a course should monitor their KSU email account often for waitlist notifications and check Owl Express for their position on the waitlist. Being waitlisted does not guarantee a seat in the course nor does it mean the student is enrolled in the course.

Waitlist Important Notes

  • UPDATE - Students will receive an email notification when a seat becomes available. Students have 12 hours (previously 24 hours) from the date and time of the email to register for the course or be deleted from the waitlist.
  • UPDATE - ALL waitlists will be turned off and expire at the end of the fifth day of Drop/Add.  During the last two days of Drop/Add, students can register for any open seat in which they meet course prerequisite and registration requirements.
  • Students MUST meet all prerequisites, co-requisite, and registration requirements to be eligible to waitlist.
  • Waitlists are offered only on selected sections and only when that section is closed.
  • Students may not be waitlisted for multiple sections of the same course. Students may either register for an open seat in a section or choose to waitlist for a closed section.
  • Time conflicts and repeat limits are not checked when waitlisting for a course, but will be enforced when registering for a course.
  • Drop for Non-Payment applies to all classes including waitlist classes. If you are dropped for non-paymen waitlist classes will be dropped.

Waitlisting and the Schedule of Classes

Courses which are setup as waitlisted courses will have a Closed – Waitlist Available status. The Closed – Waitlist Available status indicates there are no available seats in the course, and a waitlist position is available. 

 

When Waitlists Expire

Waitlists will expire:

 

  • 12 hours (previously 24 hours) from the date and time of the email to register for the course or be deleted from the waitlist 
  • at the end of the fifth day of Drop/Add for the term 

 

Students notified by NOON on the fifth day of Drop/Add will have until midnight to register for the seat being offered.  At midnight, all students on the waitlist will be expunged.

 

How to Waitlist for a Closed Section Offering Waitlisting

  1. Login to Owl Express.
  2. Select the “Registration” tab.
  3. Select the Term.
  4. Select “Registration (Add/Drop Classes)”.
  5. Perform a “Class Search” for a course section.
  6. Course sections with a “WL Cap” of more than zero are using waitlisting.

  7. Waitlisting
  8. Take note of the CRN.
  9. Select “Add to Worksheet”
  10. Enter the CRN
  11. Select “Submit Changes”
  12. From the drop down “Action” box, choose Wait List' to add to the waitlist.
  13. Click 'Submit Changes'.

Viewing Your Waitlisting Status

  1. Login to Owl Express.
  2. Select the “Registration” tab.
  3. Select the Term.
  4. Select “Display Class Schedule and Grades”.

Registering for the Course Once Notified that a Seat is Available

Students will receive an email notification when a seat becomes available. Students have 12 hours (previously 24 hours) from the date and time of the email to register for the course or be deleted from the waitlist.

  1. Login to Owl Express.
  2. Select the “Registration” tab.
  3. Select the Term.
  4. Select “Registration (Add/Drop Classes)”.
  5. From the drop down “Action” box, choose “**Web Registered**" to add to the waitlist.

How to Drop from a Wait List

  1. Login to Owl Express.
  2. Select the “Registration” tab.
  3. Select the Term.
  4. Select “Registration (Add/Drop Classes)”.
  5. From the drop down “Action” box, choose “Drop Web' to drop from the waitlist.

  7. Click 'Submit Changes'.
