The following reasons are not considered acceptable grounds for parking citation appeals:
- Forgetfulness or oversight in displaying correct hangtag/decal. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain and display these documents for all vehicles brought on campus.
- Lack of knowledge or deliberate disregard of KSU Parking Regulations, found online at: https://financialservices.kennesaw.edu/parking/Parking_Regulations
- Lateness to class or appointment.
- Claims of inability to find a legal parking space.
- Appeals based solely on a request for leniency or warning in the absence of significant mitigating circumstances.
- Appeals submitted after the 14 calendar day deadline, barring pre-approved reasons for unavoidable delay.
The following reasons will likely result in a “Denied” appeal based on established precedent:
- “My hangtag was on the floor, car seat, etc.”
Hangtags must be displayed on rearview mirror or the dashboard.
- “I got into a wreck/my car wouldn’t start/someone else needed to use my car, so I was driving a rental car/friend’s car/family member’s car and didn’t have a hangtag or decal.”
Students may obtain temporary passes from Card Services at no cost.
- “I parked on landscaping/in the roadway/not in a marked parking space because there were no signs indicating No Parking.”
Students may only park in marked spaces in a hangtag/decal-appropriate lot.
- “I parked in a visitor space because I wasn’t here for class/I was visiting a friend who lives on campus/I just needed to run in for a moment to do X.”
Students are never visitors as defined by KSU Parking Regulations.
- “I was not aware of the new hangtag policy.”
Lack of knowledge is not a valid reason for dismissal of a parking citation.
Please Note:
- The burden of proof for an appeal rests on the appellant, not the officer or patroller who issued the citation. Appeals claiming a citation was issued erroneously without evidence or details supporting such a claim will be “Denied.”
- It is the responsibility of the student to obtain an appropriate parking hangtag/decal each semester. At this time, only commuter students will be getting hangtags. Residential students should NOT come to pick up a new parking pass, as this phase will begin at a later time.
- Commuter students must hang their hangtags from the rearveiw mirror, logo side facing out. The hangtag must be visible from the outside. If the hangtag does not fit over the rearview mirror arm, it is acceptable to place the hangtag on the vehicle dash, logo side out. The hangtag is transferable and should be moved to any vehicle you park on campus.
- Campus-housing students are not entitled to apply nor obtain the commuter parking hangtags. If you live on campus and you have a commuter hangtag on your car it will be subject to a parking citation and/or your vehicle may be impounded. Housing students are assigned a numbered decal each August. This decal can be picked up at the Card Services Center, located on the 2nd floor of the Student Center. The decal must be visible at all times in its proper location (affixed in the lower left corner of the front windshield) when parked at your apartment complex or it is subject to a parking citation and/or your vehicle may be impounded.
- YOU MUST PAY THE CITATION even if you are submitting an appeal. Citations not paid within 14 calendar days from the date they are issued automatically accrue a one-time late fee as designated on the citation.
- Students with questions about the appeal process may contact the Student Parking Appeals Manager of Student Conduct and Academic Integrity at 770.499.3403. For questions concerning payment, please contact the Bursar’s Office at 770.423.6013. For questions concerning parking rules and regulations, please contact Parking at 770.423.6506.
