Student Research Assistant Information
Summer/Fall 2008
Project Plan: Dr. Susan Kirkpatrick Smith is recruiting
four (4) student research assistants to work with her on an analysis of human
skeletal remains from a Late Hellenistic/Early Roman cemetery from Agios
Nikolaos, Crete, Greece. The research will take place during the
summer of 2008, with data analysis and write-up continuing into the fall. Research is pending funding approval.
Summer/Fall Research
Assistant (2 positions)
- Successful
completion of a hands-on course with a significant focus on human
skeletons (for example Lab in Physical Anthropology, Forensic
Anthropology)
- Submission
of Student Research Assistant Application
- Interview
with Dr. Smith
- Ability
to travel to and stay in Pacchia Ammos, Crete,
Greece for 2 weeks
during May/June of 2008
- Participate
in a student research team in the fall semester of 2008. This team will produce one or more
papers/posters to present at one or more professional conferences during
the spring semester of 2009
- Student
Responsibilities:
- Spend
at least 2 weeks in Pacchia Ammos, Crete,
Greece (May/June
2008, exact dates TBA)
- Work
a minimum of 40 hours during
that two week period assisting Dr. Smith with the analysis of human
skeletal remains
- Behave
in a mature and responsible manner at all times
- Work
as part of a student research team during the fall semester of 2008 to
produce one or more papers/posters to present at one or more professional
conferences during the spring semester of 2009
Fall Research
Assistant (2 positions)
- Requirements
- Successful
completion of Introduction to Anthropology (ANTH 2201)
- Successful
completion of a hands-on course with a significant focus on the human
skeleton (for example Lab in Physical Anthropology, Forensic Anthropology)
OR enrollment in Lab in Physical Anthropology during the fall
semester of 2008.
- Submission
of Student Research Assistant Application
- Interview
with Dr. Smith
- Participate
in a student research team in the fall semester of 2008. This team will produce one or more
papers/posters to present at one or more professional conferences during
the spring semester of 2009
