The Department of Geography and Anthropology offers majors in Anthropology, Geography and Geographic Information Science and a certificate program in Geographic Information Systems. Minors are also offered in Anthropology, Geography and Native American Studies. The department also houses the Georgia Geographic Alliance which is sponsored by the National Geographic Education Foundation, Inc. The department is located on the Fourth Floor of the brand new state-of-the-art Social Science Building in Suite 4042.

Anthropology
The program of study in Anthropology offers a Bachelor of Science degree with training in the subfields of Cultural Anthropology, Physical Anthropology and Archaeology. The Anthropology Lab provides students with hands-on study of archaeological, hominine fossil and osteological materials in many courses.

Geography
The program of study in Geography offers a Bachelor of Arts degree with an emphasis in one of three academic concentrations:

 - Regional and Cultural Geography
 - Physical and Environmental Geography
 - The Geography of Cities and Suburbs

Geographic Information Science
The program of study in Geographic Information Science offers a Bachelor of Science degree with an emphasis in one of three academic concentrations:

 - Business Systems
 - Environmental Systems
 - Urban Systems

- Anthropology Internship Meetings
Attendance at one of these meetings is MANDATORY for all students who will enroll in ANTH 3389 Internship in Anthropology for Summer 2008 or Fall 2008:
Tuesday April 15 3:30 pm or Thursday April 17, 11:00 am,
both in Social Science Building Room 2019.


- Student Anthropology Research Positions
  Summer/Fall 2008:
Dr. Susan Kirkpatrick Smith is recruiting four (4) student research assistants to work with her on an analysis of human skeletal remains from a Late Hellenistic/Early Roman cemetery from Agios Nikolaos, Crete, Greece. The research will take place during the summer of 2008, with data analysis and write-up continuing into the fall. Research is pending funding approval.

- Student Geography Research Positions
  Summer/Fall 2008:
Dr. Mark Patterson and Dr. Nancy Hoalst-Pullen are seeking to hire two student assistants to work on a research project investigating the local impacts of globalization on the forestry sector in Central Chile. All research will be conducted at KSU and students will not travel to Chile for this project.
