Epsilon Chapter of Georgia


Lambda Alpha is the National Collegiate Honors Society for Anthropology.

Founded in 2006, Lambda Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Georgia exists to promote and recognize excellence in achievement among KSU Anthropology students. The membership of the Epsilon Chapter, in conjunction with the KSU Student Anthropology Club, organizes anthropology events on the KSU campus each year. Student members of the Epsilon Chapter hold the offices of President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary.

Lambda Alpha is composed of the initial letters of the Greek words Logos Anthropou, meaning "The Study of Man". Lambda Alpha's purpose is to recognize and honor superior achievement in scholarship and research among anthropology students.





KSU Lambda Alpha meetings are held in conjunction with the KSU Student Anthropology Club meetings. Prospective members of Lambda Alpha are allowed to apply for membership early in both Fall and Spring semesters.

Lambda Alpha Meetings include the following events:
-Fall and Spring semester membership drives
-Setting the yearly agenda in coordination with the Student Anthropology Club
-Choosing new officers for the following year in the Spring semester
-Setting up field trips and inviting speakers in conjunction with the Student Anthropology Club.

 Requirements to become a member of Lambda Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Georgia

 You must:
-be a currently enrolled Junior or Senior
-have completed at least twelve (12) semester hours of Anthropology courses
-have an average grade in your Anthropology courses of not less than 3.0 (a "B" average)
-have a cumulative grade point average in all of your courses of not less than 2.5

 Joining Lambda Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Georgia:
-Students who meet the requirements can apply for membership.
-There is a one time lifetime membership fee of $25.00 for students who meet the rquirements and are accepted.
-You will receive a membership card and certificate of membership.
-Eligible students are able to join twice per academic year, at the beginning of the Fall semester and the Spring semester.
-Qualified interested students should contact the faculty advisor Dr. Wayne Van Horne.







 Benefits of Lambda Alpha Membership:

-Membership in a national honors organization is beneficial for your resume and application to graduate school.
-Your Lambda Alpha membership is a lifetime membership, and you may list it among your honors and affiliations indefinitely.
-You are eligible to purchase the Lambda Alpha Honors stole (ribbon) and pin to wear on your commencement robe at graduation.
-You can meet and network with other Lambda Alpha students at KSU, at national anthropology meetings and in graduate school. -Student members of Lambda Alpha may submit papers for publication in the national Lambda Alpha Journal of Man. The Journal reserves 50% of its space for student publications, offering a unique opportunity for students to see their own work in print on a national level.
- You are eligible to compete for an annually awarded national scholarship that provides $5000 to a deserving graduating senior majoring in anthropology and a $1000 annual Dean's List award to a deserving junior majoring in anthropology.
