About Siegel Institute's initiatives for KSU faculty
We've set several objectives directly related to the support of KSU faculty that align with our mission and the strategic plan of KSU:
* To provide an educative and scholarly resource to the University community, regional educational institutions, and the local public
* To foster and develop conferences/seminars/workshops internally with faculty and students and externally with community constituents, in practical and professional ethics and leadership
* To establish, support and publicize opportunities for faculty research in practical and professional leadership and/or ethics
* To provide resources to enhance the role of ethics and leadership to the University community
* To assist in the development and promotion of interdisciplinary, ethics-related curricular initiatives

American Association of University Professors Reception
The AAUP is an important organization which advocates for faculty issues and represents faculty in dialogue with the administration. The Social events that AAUP holds provide a relaxed atmosphere for promoting the group. KSU administrators frequently join the group for dialogue with a faculty group in comfortable surroundings. The Ethics of Teaching: Professional
Dilemmas
and Responsibilities
While the AAUP addresses general ethical responsibilities in its 1987 Statement on Professional Ethics and 1940 Statement of Principles on Academic Freedom and Tenure, as faculty we face many dilemmas that represent ethical conflicts that are not necessarily explicitly addressed in the AAUP statements. As with any potential ethical dilemma, clear cut answers are not always evident. Using a case study approach, this series of workshops will explore the types of ethical dilemmas faced by faculty and discuss issues and solutions. Led by Dr. Bill Hill, CETL, and Dr. Dorothy Zinsmeister, Siegel Institute.
All workshop meetings will be held at CETL, 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Parking at CETL is Limited. Additional parking is available at the West Lot directly across from Lutheran Church.

LUNCH & A MOVIE OR A BOOK
The Siegel Institute created the "Lunch & a Movie or a Book" series of events to bring faculty and students together from the different disciplines on campus to discuss ethics and leadership in a collaborative fashion, informally over lunch. The Siegel Institute announces the event opportunities to faculty asking for their paricipation, and asks them to invite a student of their choice to participate with them. The first ten faculty respondents and their selected students then become the participants for each event. The Institute provides the faculty member and the student with a complimentary DVD of the movie or copy of the book, and provides a lunch for the entire group on the meeting date.

The ILEC Faculty Learning Communities Initiative (FLCI) is designed to bring together small groups of faculty who are interested in incorporating ethics into their courses. Previous participants in ILEC Book/Film Club Discussions have expressed interest in having an opportunity to explore a particular topic or idea in more depth. Often these sessions generate some great ideas among the participants, but then the daily demands of teaching get in the way of following through with these ideas or plans. The purpose of the FLCI is to set aside some time to do just that! A call for proposals was initiated in August 2009. Award recipients were notified August 28, 2009.
Visit the FLCI page for complete information.
