About Siegel Institute's community initiatives:
Since its inception, the Siegel Institute has been very involved with community people and projects--in fact, was birthed through the lifeblood of Institute friends--and maintains its priority of building bridges between Kennesaw State University, and community members and organizations of all types. A look at our history shows many treasured relationships and accomplishments--which are continuously being added to this website!
Currently, our mission includes several objectives related to community connections, which help to accomplish the strategic plan of KSU:
* To provide an educative and scholarly resource to the University community, regional educational institutions, and the local public
* To foster and develop conferences/seminars/workshops internally with faculty and students and externally with community constituents, in practical and professional ethics and leadership
* To assist in the development and promotion of interdisciplinary, ethics-related curricular initiatives

The 2009 Phenomenal Woman of the Year
Johnnetta McSwain, a keynote speaker at our 2009 Phenomenal Women's Conference and this year's winner of the Phenomenal Woman Award, is featured in a GPB original production, The Road Beyond Abuse. Jane Fonda narrates this powerful documentary that t ells of the horrific abuse suffered by Johnnetta and her sister, and how she broke the cycle. At the PWC, Johnnetta shared her journey of how she began to live the life she only dreamed was possible. A pivotal. life-changing event was her decision to get an education. She earned a degree in Communication from Kennesaw State University, and went on to earn a Master of Social Work from Clark University. She lives her life's passion focusing on empowering women to break destructive cycles and achieve their goals.
