James Westbrook

Security & Safety Coordinator

James has a background in multiple disciplines within the realm of Public Safety.  James started out with the Jasper County Fire Services (JCFS) and has worked his way up from rookie to his current ranks of Lieutenant and Training Officer.  With JCFS, he has also become a member of the Oconee Area Regional Hazardous Materials Team.  
James also has worked as a 911 dispatcher for over a decade.  He was an adjunct instructor for the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in the Basic Communications Training Division for two years.  

In 2006, James began working as a Communications Officer in the State Operations Center (SOC) as part of the Georgia Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security (GEMA).  He spent two years in the SOC before joining the GEMA School Safety Unit.  He spent over 5 years in the SSU before joining the Kennesaw State University Department of Strategic Security & Safety in 2013.

James and his wife started an AWANA program at his local church in 2012 and are currently co-commanders of the program.  

James earned his A.B. in Sociology from the University of Georgia.  He is currently pursuing his M.S. in Emergency Management from Jacksonville State University.  
James is a nationally certified firefighter and Hazardous Materials Technician.  He is a Peace Officer’s Standards and Training (POST) certified instructor as well as a Level II Fire Instructor.  James has also completed the Basic Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) training series presented by GEMA.
