Identifying Potential Problems Early

KSU is committed to keeping the campus as safe as possible and supporting our students when they are experiencing difficulties. The best way for these commitments to be met is to identify and intervene in lives of individuals who are precipitously moving towards crisis. That is, we don’t only want to react to problems, but strive to do everything we can to prevent them from occurring. Many experts believe that the major incidents on university campuses may have been averted had the “red flags” been known collectively. In order to provide a venue for such “red flags” to be reported, the Red Flag Reporting site has been created.
Never use the online reporting form for emergencies.

Examples of when to use the Behavior Reporting Form

1.
Thinking/talking about suicide or other self-injurious behaviors

2.
Behaviors that are threatening or have the potential to harm others

3.
Abnormal and/or disorganized behavior that disrupts the normal functioning of the campus environment

4.
Writings that communicate dangerous intentions to self or others

5.
Threatening online postings

6.
Noticeable and dramatic changes in day to day behavior (e.g., suddenly begins missing classes, grades significantly drop, declining personal care)

7.
Attending classes under the influence

8.
Paranoia (e.g., blames others in the class for his/her problems)

9.
Extreme lack of emotional responsiveness

Displays emotions that are excessive for the circumstances

Disrupting class
