Call to Order at 10:00 a.m by Patty Sansom

Report from Earle Holley:

  1. Commended the progress of the Concession Stand Committee and offered assistance from the VPs office if needed.
  2. Budget on Track.
    3½ % for Regents employees. Governor has suggested the budget be cut back
    Possibly a cut back to other state employee increase of 2.5%
  3. Discussion of campus construction and damage to roads. The roads will be fixed, there is no decision as to who will pay for the damages but the repair will take place.
  4. Concern was expressed by Staff Council member regarding Enron and its tie in with the TRS retirement fund offered by the University System of Georgia. Mr. Holley assured staffs that losses were “very, very minimal”. He assured the Council on “the soundness of the plan”.
Report from Susan Dalton:
  1. Congratulations to Staff Council on the success of the Sweetheart Dance.
  2. There was a 10% participation in upward evaluations. The forms were used constructively and they are accessible at any time of the year.

Treasurers Report.

Social Committee-Amy Phillips, Chair.
Ice Cream Social in University Rooms A & B, March 6, from 2:00- 4:00 p.m.
Egg Hunt on March 23, from 10-11, there is a need for prize donations, eggs, and candy.
Claudia McNeal volunteered to be the Easter Bunny!!!
Comment from Chair that Marriott’s service at the Sweetheart dance was great.
Public Relations Committee-Emily Lawson - chair
Congratulations to the Committee on a “Job Well Done!” in the promotion of the Sweetheart Dance.
Spirit Committee-Janese Thompson-Chair
Suggestion by Nancy Barnes to divide the staff constituency into 20 person groups and to charge a staff council representative with getting to know and to inform his/her group on issues that involve the staff/staff council.
Informed staff council that the Spirit Committee has a standing meeting every Monday at 12:30.
Staff Development Committee-Connie Crabtree Chair
Confirmed with Christi Jones that all information pertaining to Staff Awards goes specifically to Barbara Denmark.
Jan Wilson accepted responsibility for the Employee of the Year, as Connie was nominated.
Concession Committee-Christi Jones
The establishment of a set up crew will be necessary for future functions. Volunteering will be done through David Baugher.
Volunteers for the month of March are needed.
Creation of a voucher system. Vouchers will be given out to those persons who will receive free refreshments from the concession stand.

New Business
Comments and Corrections done to Bylaws were passed by the Staff Council for its approval; any changes are to be made by Patty Sansom.
Pictures of staff council were made on Campus Green.
Motion was made to recognize former Staff Council member, Mike Morton.
