The 2006-2007 Adult Learner Ceremony
Recipients

BOBBIENA CARR, Early Education
Rosalynn Carter states: "You have to have confidence in your abilities, and then be tough enough to follow through." I set goals for myself when I entered Kennesaw and embarked on a journey that would take me on the path I was destined to travel. I pray every day and receive encouragement from my family, friends, and professors.
Share with your family and friends how important it is to get an education and expand your knowledge with everyone you meet. Always stay focused with your educational goal in mind and take one day at a time. If you fall down, get up and dust yourself off and keep going! Take each semester slowly and always reward your efforts at the end of the semester. The most important thing is to believe in yourself!

For a large part of my life, I wanted to go to college. I would say begin by setting short term goals, get the emotional support of your family and friends, find ways to finance your education and never quit. It can be done. I am a prime example.

KRISTA SEARCY, Communication
“What is success? I think it is a mixture of having a flair for the thing that you are doing; knowing that it is not enough, that you have got to have hard work and a certain sense of purpose.” – Margaret Thatcher These words from Margaret Thatcher encapsulate my idea of success. It is my passion and thirst to continue to aim higher everyday in my pursuit in attaining goals that I never before thought imaginable.

SHERI SPERIN, Sociology
This award is an acknowledgment of my hard determination, tenacity and fortitude. If you have the shear determination to go back to school, the tenacity and fortitude to work hard to achieve your goals and dreams, then make those dreams come true. And if you run into a brick wall or run into those who want to bring you down, take a stance to stand up for what you believe. Just remember that when you graduate and you hang your degree on your wall, that no one will ever be able to take that away from it. To quote Goethe, "If you can dream it, begin it. Boldness has genius and magic in it."

NANCY N. WILSON, MAPW Professional Writing
Success requires relentless pursuit of your goals despite obstacles. Adjust your plan to include them; they are merely bumps on the road to your dreams. Here's my "step plan for success:" Set obtainable goals, factoring in all aspects of your life; create a timeline; adjust during setbacks; stay focused; never quit; and, reward yourself for small achievements.
