The New Adult Learner Recognition and Graduation Ceremony is an annual opportunity to honor the academic success of nontraditional students who have overcome difficult circumstances to excel in the classroom. The expanded format will now include students who are graduating at the end of each Spring semester. The event now acknowledges and celebrates the achievements of students at various points in their academic careers as well as provide a platform expressing gratitude and the positive experiences that have made a difference in the life of students who are graduating. The new ceremony will be made up of three short segments as follows:
This segment of the program will provide a platform expressing gratitude and the positive experiences that have made a difference in the life of students and their quest for the goal of graduation. Graduates will recognize up to four (4) friends, family, faculty and staff who have been instrumental in their success.
Adult Learner Recognition Nomination
The Award: The award recognizes adult students who have shown success in coping with numerous roles (e.g., work, school, and family), have overcome difficult circumstances to pursue higher education needs, and have taken innovative approaches to reach their goals.
Qualifications for Nominations
- To be eligible, the student must meet the criteria that are used to define an adult learner attending KSU.
- Must have been enrolled at KSU for a minimum of 4 Semesters (the student’s current semester may be included as the 4th semester)
- Greater consideration for recognition will be given to nominees graduating in 2015.
- Must be nominated by KSU faculty, staff, or students
Collaboration, Leadership and Service Awards
During this segment, selected faculty, staff and students are recognized and given certificates for their supporting roles or as advocates for adult learners. If you know of a KSU community member who serves as an advocate or champion for adult learners, submit their name and contact information and a short description (less than 200 words) of why you feel they deserve to be recognized. A selection committee will review and choose recipients of this award.
