Adult Learner Programs - Parenting Programs Goals

  • Work with campus and community to develop a comprehensive parenting program
  • Provide a layered structure offering campus parents information, support, and interaction through programs every two weeks during the Fall and Spring semesters
  • Implement technology to provide podcasts and internet forums for consistent, broader exposure to campus parents and/or interested students, staff, or faculty
  • Provide a semester calendar (Kid Stuff) of child-friendly events on and off campus
  • Provide parenting support magazines and information in the Lifelong Learning Center
  • Provide an annual student parent childcare subsidy lottery
  • Increase input from campus parents through an informal student parent advisory group
  • Provide three important elements of parenting support:

    1. Interaction with a mentor
      • Parent-to-Parent Network - Informal discussion facilitated by trained mentors

    2. Access to authoritative information related to pertinent parenting issues
      • Positive Parenting Strategies - Speaker presentations on specific topics

    3. Peer interaction
      • Parent-to-Parent Network - Campus community parenting support
      • Family Fun Day - Opportunity for campus parents to spend the day with their family moving across borders and boundaries in educational and entertaining interaction with the campus community

Childcare Subsidy Program

Funded by Student Activity fees, a limited number of childcare subsidies of $300 per semester are available to accommodate the needs of student parents. A drawing is held at the beginning of the fall semester each year to determine 10 students and 10 alternates. The first 10 names drawn will continue to receive the subsidy for Spring, as long as the supporting enrollment documentation is submitted within the first week of each session. If a student is unable to use the subsidy, an alternate is chosen for the remainder of the academic year.

NOTE: It is the responsibility of the student to locate, secure and pay the daycare facility.

For additional information, please contact Adult Learner Programs in the Lifelong Learning Center, Student Center addition, Room 261. Childcare Subsidy Application Forms will be available in the Lifelong Learning Center during the application period.
