This skills development workshop is designed primarily for first time students at Kennesaw State University. An in-depth concentration on learning self-advocacy skills is included. The facilitator will address issues such as self-awareness, self-esteem and self-confidence building. In addition, this workshop can benefit many students who struggle with issues of self-worth.

Participants will be guided in effective ways to identify themselves to others as a person whose disability may or may not be apparent. Students' rights as well as their responsibilities while at the university will be explained. Appropriate ways to approach professors will be taught.

The facilitator will inform participants about the various resources, policies, and procedures to follow in order to receive reasonable accommodations that are available through the disAbled Student Support Services office of Kennesaw State University. Participants will be encouraged to avail themselves of all the resources that are available to them on campus to make their college career more successful.
