About the Stonewall NEST Community:
The Stonewall housing community is a gender inclusive housing community specifically geared toward students of all sexual orientations, genders, gender identities, and gender expressions who want to live in a community celebrating their various identities and foster understanding, learning, and community.
The Stonewall housing community promotes a safe, supportive and comfortable environment for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer (GLBTIQ) and gender non-conforming students who may not feel comfortable in traditional gender-segregated housing or would rather live with other students who identify along the GLBTIQ spectrum. The Stonewall community thrives on developing academically successful students, inclusive of sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, and/or expression.
Because the Stonewall Housing Community is gender inclusive, rooms will be assigned without regard to a persons gender, gender identity, or gender expression. This means that residents of the community may have roommates that identify as a different gender than themselves.
There will be intentional GLBTIQ programming that residents will be highly encouraged to attend. Part of the Stonewall community's success will be dependent on resident participation in the community. Residents may be asked to co-facilitate some programming efforts as a way to educate others about their experiences. Many of these programs will be made in part free by Residence Life fees. By joining a community of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, gender non-conforming, and ally students, residents will be expected to respect the commonalities and differences of the residents.
The Stonewall Housing Community is a partnership between GLBTIQ Student Retention Services and the Department of Residence Life. All prospective residents will be required to meet all established requirements and expectations of Residence Life.
