Important Documents

Make two copies of all important documents before mailing any originals. Keep one copy on file in the Admissions Office and keep the other copy for yourself.

Citizenship and Immigration Records

  • Passport
  • Visa
  • I-94 (Arrival/departure record)
  • Form I-20AB (F-1 students and dependents)
  • Form IAP-66 (J-1 students, scholars, and dependents)
  • Social Security Card (needed for employment.  Do not carry it around to prevent identity theft.  Memorize the numbers)
  • Sponsorship Letter

Banking Records

  • Checking account (look for student checking with no monthly fee)
  • Savings account
  • Banking statements
  • Tax records and returns (1040NR or 1040NR E-Z and Form 8843 from the Internal Revenue Service-International students must file)
  • Receipts on all major purchase

Transportation

  • MARTA transcard
  • Driver's license
  • Car registration, insurance, and pink slip (proof of car ownership)

Educational Records

  • Transcripts
  • University identification card (I.D. Card - carry this at all times)
  • Resumes (Curriculum Vitae)

Insurance Policy Records  (As of Spring 2003, insurance for international students is mandatory)

  • Insurance identification cards
  • Health, automobile, house, life insurance
  • Medical history
  • Immunization
 

Did you know...
the first three numbers of the social security card show what part of the country you applied from? The next two numbers in coded form show the year you applied, the last four numbers are your citizens number kept on file by the government.
