Campus Services

Counseling Services

Many people can benefit from the services of a counselor. Counselors assist people with personal issues and keep the information in the strictest confidence. They help individuals enhance relationships at home, school and at work. Counselors facilitate personal growth and career development. They can help international students deal with issues of cross-cultural adjustment.

The Counseling and Advising Program Services (CAPS) Center offers group workshops with a wide range of topics, ranging from improving time management and study skills to building assertiveness and self-esteem. This is also where you can explore your career options. Maybe you are not as sure as you once were about what you want to be.

CAPS offers tests to help you get in touch with your personality, your likes and your dislikes. Personality inventories such as the Myers-Briggs are administered and interpreted in the CAPS Center. You can also go online and do the test. You can also complete a self-directed career assessment on the computer through Typefocus.com. For more information call (770) 423-6600. If you are on campus just dial EXT. 6600.

Student Activities and Leadership

During your educational program in the United States, you will have many opportunities to participate in co-curricular activities. The communication skills you develop through your cross-cultural experience in the classroom and particularly in co-curricular activities can be of lasting benefit. One of the best ways to make friends and develop teamwork and leadership skills is through participating in the International Student Association (ISA) or other campus organizations.

Through participation in student organizations, you can learn and/or improve organizational skills related to goal setting, problem solving, group decision-making, conflict resolution and team development. You can gain a sense of accomplishment as you plan, organize and implement educational, cultural and social events. Groups on campus include: Academic and Professional Societies, Political or Special Interest Groups, Honor Societies, Recreational, Media, Student Government, International Groups and The Odyssey Peer Mentoring Program in the Student Development Center.

The College Bookstore

The Bookstore is located on the first floor of the Student Center. It is open from 8:00AM to 7:00PM on weekdays and 10:00AM to 2:00PM on Saturdays. The number is (770) 423-6261. As is the case for all calls made on campus to another campus office, just dial the last four numbers. The Bookstore is EXT. 6261.

New and used books can be purchased at the Bookstore. Used textbooks are less expensive than new ones. You can buy used books from the bookstore or from someone who has already taken the course. Make sure the professor will be using a book before you buy it new or used. If a book is in your major, you may want to consider buying it new and keeping it to start building your personal library of books.
