Important Notes to Students:

  • Don't forget to come by the VKSU office to pick up your Service Verification Form.
  • Agency contact info will be provided with your Service Verification Form.
  • Students must then contact agency directly for days/times of volunteering availability.
  • Most agencies that deal directly with people on a one-on-one basis require a background check.
  • You cannot get credit for volunteering at your place of employment.
  • You cannot get credit for volunteering at any religious institution.


Advocates for Children Cartersville Advocates for Children is a non-profit organization devoted to serving children and families in Bartow County and surrounding North Georgia counties. Through our umbrella of programs including Flowering Branch Children’s Shelter, A Better Way Children’s Advocacy Center, and Court Appointed Special Advocates, we strive to one day help create a world where all children are respected and loved, happy and thriving. More Information
Amedisys Hospice Service
Cartersville
Work with hospice patients, family members, and staff members through direct care, running errands, reading, yard or house work, or clerical/administrative support.

Requirements:

  • Orientation is required and held when the volunteers are available!
  • Background check is required and agency will complete!
  • TB test required annually!

Hours:

  • Monday - Sunday
  • Daytime and evening hours available!
Boys & Girls Club Cartersville Adairsville A program that helps develop skills in children. Volunteers are needed to tutor children, help with homework and recreational programs.

Hours:

  • Monday - Friday
  • 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm (hours may vary by day!)
Cartersville Medical Center Cartersville Volunteers provide services such as assisting patients who are being admitted and discharged, visiting and assisting patients, and assisting in making the patient's stay more comfortable.

Requirements:

  • Minimum length of service is 100 hours per year! A minimum of 1 year and they would prefer a longer commitment!
  • Orientation is required - held at various times of the year
  • Background check is required - hospital will complete
  • Other medical needs will need to be completed before starting!
Etowah Valley Humane Society Cartersville Volunteers are needed to clean cages and/or kennel runs, walk animals, socialize with the animals, clean the lobby, do laundry and/or dishes, and other assigned duties as determined by the Director.

Requirements & Hours:

  • Volunteers must visit the shelter and meet with the Volunteer Coordinator prior to volunteering
  • Complete a volunteer application
  • Sunday - Saturday (7 days a week)
  • 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Gentiva Hospice Bartow
End of life hospice care - visit patients and assist families with various needs!

Important Information:

  • Flexible volunteering times: evenings, weekdays, and weekends.
  • Background check required - agency will do.
  • TB test required - agency will assist
  • 3-hour training required, then additional as needed.
Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter Cartersville Volunteers are needed to help with a homeless shelter for men, women, and families.

General Information:

  • Monday - Saturday
  • Hours will vary!
  • Must volunteer for a minimum of twelve (12) hours of service!
Good Shepherd Foundation of Bartow Cartersville Good Shepherd is a sheltered work center for developmentally disabled adults. Services provided to the clients at the center include the following; training on living skills, work behavior, assisting with job searches, etc. Volunteers are needed to work with the clients one-on-one and in groups by assisting them with work-related tasks and the achievement of their personal goals. Additionally, volunteers are needed to assist staff with basic operations of the organization.

Hours & Requirement:

    • Monday - Friday
    • 8:00 am - 2:00 pm
    • Must submit a character reference - a letter from a non-family member attesting to the individaul's character!
Goodwill of North Georgia Cartersville
Duties include the following:
  • Placement Call Specialist - contact particpants to document the progress they've made with the job search.
  • Computer Support Assistant - format resumes, covers letters, search online, and fax/copy documents.
  • Class Instructor - teach basic skills classes, including basic computers, how to upload resumes, and other job skills and search courses.
  • Assist with special projects like job fairs and job research projects.
  • Special need for volunteers that speak Spanish.

General Information:

  • Background check by the agency
  • All volunteers must complete a drug screen provide by the agency!
  • Service hours will vary by assignment and center hours!
Heartland Hospice Cartersville Volunteers are needed to help in the office and visit patients who are terminally ill.

Requirements:

  • Orientation is required - training days and orientation time is flexible to accommodate student's schedule!
  • Background check is required and agency will complete!
  • TB test is required and agency will provide!
Keep Bartow Beautiful Cartersville and various locations in Bartow Co. Volunteer opportunities include: Adopt-a-Road; Adopt-a-Stream; Community gardens; hiking, nature, and tree identification trails; Arbor Day programs; school and community recycling programs; America Recycles day; electronics waste collection; paper shredding events; Great American Cleanup; river cleanups; CelEARTHbration family environmental festival; office volunteers; and school outreach. Special Events will be listed under the Dated Events section on the VKSU website when open for volunteers!
North Bartow Community Services Adairsville Volunteers are needed to assist in the following areas:
  • Thrift Store - sort and tag donated items, etc.
  • Food Pantry - prepare food boxes for distribution in pantry.
  • Food Prep - prepare and serve items for senior lunches and soup and sandwich suppers.
  • Reception - volunteers will perform various administrative duties.
  • Agency open Monday - Friday from 8am - 5pm
The Salvation Army Cartersville Have three areas of service open:
  • Thrift Store - process donationa and stock store
  • Food Pantry - stock shelves and pack orders
  • Seasonal - assist with Christmas related events and food drives, etc.
