KSU Grounds Department Various locations around KSU Volunteers are needed to help mow the grass, cut weeds, edge, pick up trash, water the plants, prune, and complete other various tasks as determined by the Crew Supervisor.

Keep Bartow Beautiful Cartersville and various locations in Bartow Co. Volunteer opportunities include: Adopt-a-Road; Adopt-a-Stream; Community gardens; hiking, nature, and tree identification trails; Arbor Day programs; school and community recycling programs; America Recycles day; electronics waste collection; paper shredding events; Great American Cleanup; river cleanups; CelEARTHbration family environmental festival; office volunteers; and school outreach. North Bartow Community Services Adairsville Volunteers are needed to assist in the following areas:
  • Thrift Store - sort and tag donated items, etc.
  • Food Pantry - prepare food boxes for distribution in pantry.
  • Food Prep - prepare and serve items for senior lunches and soup and sandwich suppers.
  • Reception - volunteers will perform various administrative duties.

Cherokee County Humane Society Acworth Following opportunity is available:
  • Thrift Store - Sort clothing, assist customers, tag items, and maintain the cats that reside in the store. For the cats, you will clean, feed & water, and socialize with them.

Habitat for Humanity 
North Central Georgia
Canton Volunteers are needed to stock shelves, move furniture, clean donations, set up displays, and assist customers at the Habitat ReStore. They are not currently accepting volunteers to assist with builds.

MUST Ministries Canton Volunteers are needed to help with administrative needs, serve as translators, assist with education and employment assistance for adults, and serve in the clothing closet.

  • Complete confidentiality training if working directly with the clients

The Lionheart School Canton Volunteers are needed to assist with routine farm maintenance such as starting seeds, planting, weeding, harvesting, building beds, amending soil, building farm infrastructure. Lionheart may offer opportunities to volunteer on the farm with children or other children from the community during class time or summer camps.
The Salvation Army Canton Volunteers are needed to assist in the warehouse. Duties include the following: receiving donations, sorting, cleaning, possibly pricing donations, stocking the store, learning the system of rotating items, and other duties as assigned by the Volunteer Coordinator.

Service Hours:

  • Must volunteer at least eight (8) hours of service or more!
  • Special projects can be created for volunteers that need less than eight (8) hours of service!

COBB COUNTY

Alive Ministries, Inc. Marietta Food pantry that partners with local schools in Cobb County to meet the need of hungry kids and their families. Looking for volunteers to serve in the warehouse counting and sorting food donations. Duties include: sorting through bins of food donations, marking food with expiration dates and counting donations.

General Information:

  • Monday - Friday
  • 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
  • Some nights and weeknds are available; very limited!
  • Warehouse hours vary during the summer!
Atlanta Union Mission Thrift Store Marietta
Volunteers will help greet and assist donors and customers, sort donated items, stock the store, and keep the store looking organized and clean.

Hours:

      • Monday - Saturday
      • From 9:00 am - 7:00 pm
Becca's Closet Marietta Becca's Closet collects and distributes formal dresses to girls so that they can attend special school events such as prom, homecoming, and military balls.Volunteers are needed to serve as personal shoppers for girls in need. Volunteers will help the girls find a dress that fits them and rack new donations. Many times the agency also needs help with the upkeep of the house such as cleaning, mowing the yard, and raking leaves.

Requirements:

  • Complete an application process
  • Attend an orientation - weekend or via email
  • Must volunteer a minimum of ten (10) hours a semester!
Books for Africa Smyrna Books for Africa provides books and educational supplies to children and students in Africa. They utilize book donations from individuals, schools, organizations, and publishers to send to Africa. Volunteers are asked to dress comfortably; jeans and sneakers (no open toe shoes) are fine.

CAMP Austell Volunteers are needed to collect, sort, and distribute clothing and food to lower income families and individuals.

Chattahoochee Riverkeeper Cobb
Fulton
Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper provides a number of different volunteer opportunities for people interested in helping to preserve the Chattahoochee River and its watershed through programs in education, community outreach, policy reform, and legal actions. From working all day at a festival or assisting with river clean-ups, there's something available for everyone's skill level, interest and physical ability. Events will be posted under the Dated Events section on the VKSU website when open for volunteers!!!
Cobb County Watershed Stewardship Program Marietta area Volunteers will work in the Wildlife & Rain Garden. Come learn more about the garden and get your hands dirty! Every week we will explore and maintain the rain garden. During the school year, the Stewardhsip Mobs service projects will be available; usually in the late afternoons on a weekday.

Kennesaw Mountain Trail Club Kennesaw Volunteers are needed to help maintain trails, help create new trails, plant flowers, and perform other environmental tasks that help support the historical and recreational value of Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park.

  • Trail Work Days are held the 2nd Saturday of every month
  • 8:30 am - 1:00 pm
  • Hours change to 11:30 am - 4:00 pm during January & February!

OFH Clothing for a Cause Powder Springs Volunteers will sort and price donations (clothes, accessories, and furniture), help customers on the sales floor, run the cash register, and box clothes for the homeless. The proceeds that are collected from the sales at the thrift store help feed the homeless.

Second Life Thrift Store Avondale Estates Second Life is an upscale thrift store that was created with the mission of giving homeless pets a second chance at life. Money collected from the store is used to support animal rescue charities and programs. Volunteer duties include the following: sorting donations, displaying items, organizing the back room, creating displays, testing electronics, and assisting customers.

Dress for Success Atlanta Work one-on-one with a client to assist her in selecting the appropriate business suit for her interview. In addition, volunteers are needed to organize special events, sort clothing, and mentor clients.

Feed the Hungry Atlanta Provide food boxes for needy families all year. Need weekly warehouse volunteers and Saturday box delivery volunteers.

HomeStretch Roswell Homestretch guides homeless working families with minor children in North Metro Atlanta toward increased self-reliance and stability by providing life skills training, mentoring, and supportive housing.  

  • Assist with renovation and landscaping projects at their duplex and town homes. Includes demolition, painting, cleaning, lawn work, and maintenance.

Requirements:

    • Complete a volunteer application and consent to a background check
    • Complete volunteer training that is held on individual basis

Project Open Hand Atlanta Open Hand helps people prevent or better manage chronic disease through Comprehensive Nutrition Care, which combines home-delivered meals and nutrition education as a means to reinforce the connection between informed food choices and improved quality of life.

The Drake House Roswell The Drake House is a crisis residential assessment center for homeless women and children in North Fulton. You may volunteer in the food pantry. Minimum length of service is twice per month or once per week.
The Gateway Center Atlanta The Gateway Center is a homeless service organization for men, women, and women with children. The Center provides transitional housing, shelter, and other basic services.

Volunteers can choose to work in a variety of settings including:
  • Working in the clothing closet
  • Sorting in-kind donations
  • Special Drives (i.e. Coats, Packaged Food Drives, Towels, etc.)

Requirements:

  • Complete a background check - volunteer is responsible for getting the check completed!!
  • Attend an orientation that is held once monthly
  • Sign a Volunteer Agreement Form
Trees Atlanta Various locations in Atlanta Volunteers will plant, water, and prune trees. Volunteers will also remove invasive plants from green spaces and help with special projects and fundraisers.

Truly Living Well works to engage the community in developing local food systems through educations and food production. TLW manages 5-6 farm sites in and around metro Atlanta to increase access to food for all. Their goal is to demonstrate agriculture as a sustainable and economic solution for helping people to eat and live better.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to work in the following areas: gardening, planting, mulching, making compost, harvesting, farm maintenance activities, event planning, hosting booths, assisting with the market, and sharing information with others.

Wellspring Living - Virginia Highland Atlanta Volunteers will work in a thrift store. Habitat for Humanity Lawrenceville Need volunteers to work in the ReStore location. Volunteers will be responsible for cleaning, organizing, and assisting the customers. Minimum length of service is a four (4) hour shift!
Norcross Cooperative Ministries Norcross Volunteers will assist in the food pantry, clothing closet, receive and sort donations, perform various office duties, and help with client intake.

SOS - Daffy's Pet Soup Kitchen Lawrenceville A pet food bank serving North and Central Georgia. Helping to feed hungry pets and keep families together. Volunteers are needed to assist in the warehouse sorting and handing out pet food.

St. Vincent de Paul Society Duluth, Lawrenceville, Lilburn Volunteers are needed for a number of programs, including food pantries, clothing closets, counseling services, after-school programs, health care needs, housing, and English-as-a-second-language classes. Programs vary according to the location.

Wellspring Living Thrift Store Duluth Volunteers will sort and price donations (clothes, accessories, and furniture), help customers on the sales floor, and run the cash register. The proceeds that are collected from the sales at the thrift store help assist women involved in human trafficking. All volunteers will receive a 25 percent discount at the store. More Information

McKenna Farms Therapy Services Dallas Provides physical, occupational, and speech therapy services for children with special needs. Volunteer may only do outside work - no therapy options available. Outside opportunities include: cleaning the barn area or maintenance work.

Shepherd's Rest Ministries Dallas Shepherd's Rest provides a safe house and services to women and children who have been displaced from their home due to domestic violence. Volunteer tasks may include, but not limited to, the following: light office duties, warehouse work, fundraising events, lawn maintenance, children activities, and other tasks as assigned by the Volunteer Coordinator.

Requirements:

  • Background check is required - must complete at the Paulding County Sheriff's Department. No cost to the volunteer.
  • Orientation is required - held at the facility (dates and time varies)

CARES, Inc. Jasper (Pickens) Volunteers are needed to stock food, fill orders, reception duties, and some counseling.

City of Calhoun Recreation Calhoun (Gordon) Volunteers are needed to organize and assist with sports for youth and adults, ground maintenance, etc.
Forsyth County Community Connection - Hands on Forsyth Forsyth County area Volunteers can register for a variety of different volunteer opportunities throughout the Forsyth County area that range from working with children to serving food at a homeless shelter.
