  • Don't forget to come by the VKSU office to pick up your Service Verification Form.
  • Agency contact info will be provided with your Service Verification Form.
  • Students must then contact agency directly for days/times of volunteering availability.
  • Most agencies that deal directly with people on a one-on-one basis require a background check.
  • You cannot get credit for volunteering at your place of employment.

  • Atlanta Animal Alliance Atlanta Volunteers are needed to assist with cleaning, feeding/watering, walking, and socializing with the animals.
    Furkids Petsmart in Tucker Volunteers care for the basic needs of the animals at the Adoption Centers or shelter by providing love, fresh food and water, and cleaning the cages
    Georgia Canine Companions for Independence Various Canine Companions for Independence is a non-profit organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing highly trained assistance dogs and ongoing support to ensure quality partnerships. Volunteers are only needed to assist with special events that are scheduled throughout the year. Any events will be listed on the Dated Events page.
    LifeLine Animal Project Avondale Estates Volunteers are needed in the following areas: caring for the animals in the Dog House and Kitty Motel, Spay & Neuter Clinic, Pet Adoptions at local shelters, Transporting, Construction/Painting/Landscaping, and Administrative type work. Orientation is required - held monthly or as needed!

  • Atlanta Parent Magazine Atlanta Volunteers help with special projects scheduled by the magazine.
    Chris Kids, Inc. Atlanta A volunteer organization that provides services to children and families, including assisting children that are emotionally and physically abused; transitioning from foster homes to independent living; and helping to preserve families by providing them with resources.

    Volunteers needed Monday-Friday from 10am-2pm, Special project times vary. Background check required for regular individual volunteers. Orientations held Mondays 4:30-6pm.
    Good Shepherd Services Chamblee A volunteer organization that provides services to refugee families, including after-school programs, English classes, cultural enrichment programs, parenting and children classes, and classes on immigration. Please note this agency works mostly with Asians living in the metro area.

    Volunteers are needed to assist in the Career Centers. Volunteers will help clients seeking jobs and micro-business owners by assisting them with office-related needs. This may include: internet access, faxing, making copies/phone calls, and any other resources they might need for job searches or business development. More Information
    International Rescue Committee (IRC) Decatur Volunteers are needed to be ESL tutors, translators, etc. More Information
    Jerusalem House Atlanta Agency assists individuals, families, and homeless living with HIV/AIDS. Minimum length of service is 1-3 hour shifts unless tutoring which is twice a month for an entire school year. 

    Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday 10 am - 7 pm (1-3 hour shifts) during the school year to work on a variety of areas, including clothing closet organizing, gardening, hospitality volunteer, house assistant, maintenance, tutoring, and office administration.

    Background check required - agency does. Orientation required.
    Pregnancy Resources of Doraville Doraville Students have the option to determine in what area of the agency that they would like to volunteer. Areas from which to choose are the following: administration, stork-basket management, event planning, publicity/PR, grant writing/research, and client mentor. Please note that client mentors require 20 hours of training. Minimum length of service is completing chosen task - can volunteer multiple days. Must be at least 19. Hours: Monday-Thursday from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. Orientation held first day of volunteering.

  • A.G. Rhodes Health & Rehab Atlanta Long-term nursing home that needs volunteers to participate in different activities, including playing cards, playing board games, book clubs, and scrapbooking. More Information
    Children's Wish Foundation Atlanta Individuals assist the agency by providing terminally ill children with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for their dream. More Information
    FOCUS Atlanta Individuals needed to assist with respite care for children who have been diagnosed with a variety of developmental delays. Volunteers are also needed to provide administrative assistance. Minimum length of service is 5 hours per week.
    Guardian Hospice Atlanta Volunteers are needed to provide companionship and/or make friendly visits to clients who are utilizing the services of this agency. Visits can include reading to the clients, assisting with light housework, playing games, and/or creating arts and crafts. Note: Background check and orientation are required. Minimum length of service is one (1) hour visit per month.
    Senior Connections Atlanta Help seniors "age in place" in the comfort of their own homes. Needs are to deliver meals to homebound seniors, preparing and packaging meals, administrative and kitchen assistance, activity coordinators. More Information

    Looking for volunteers to woron the farm, through the Global Growers Network, in Decatur and Stone Mountain. Need volunteers Tuesday - Saturday from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm.
    Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper Cobb DeKalb
    Fulton
    Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper provides a number of different volunteer opportunities for people interested in helping to preserve the Chattahoochee River and its watershed through programs in education, community outreach, policy reform, and legal actions. From working all day at a festival or assisting with river clean-ups, there's something available for everyone's skill level, interest and physical ability.

  • Be The Match Decatur Be The Match recruits individuals to become possible marrow donors. Volunteers are needed to assist with various events (soccer marathons, comedy fundraisers, and run/walks). A volunteer can also become a Volunteer Ambassador. This involves coordinating the actual bone marrow drives and assisting the day of the event. Assistants are also needed to help with various office duties in the main office.

    Blaze Sports Atlanta This organization delivers programs and services to youth and adults living with a disability. Volunteers help in organizing sports events, teaching sports skills, organizing physical activites, and administrative capacities.
    Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Atlanta Wide variety of jobs - patient care, customer service & administrative work. Minimum of 25 hours.

    Two main areas of service where volunteers are needed:
    • Clinical: helping with patient flow, greeting and directing patients, and serving as a clerical assistant
    • Outreach: helping with special events and health promotion activities and campaigns.
    Background check is required - agency will complete.
    Hours of operation: M-F from 8:15 am - 5:00 pm.
    Dekalb Medical Center Decatur Assigned to work in various areas of the hospital. Minimum length of service is 2 semesters.
    Feminist Women's Health Center Atlanta Volunteers will assist in a variety of roles in office support, community outreach, advocacy, and specific educational programs, including, but not limited to: computer work, staffing tables at events, participating in organizing events and activities, etc. Training and support is provided by the agency. Reference check - no background check. Orientations held 2nd Wednesdays from 6:30 - 8 pm and 2nd Saturdays from 10:30 am - Noon; other times may be available by request.
    Georgia Coalition for Physical Activity and Nutrition (GPAN)Cooking Matters Stone Mountain Cooking Matters collaborative program model connects families with food by teaching them how to prepare healthy, tasty meals on a limited budget. Professional chefs and nutritionists volunteer their time and expertise to lead hands-on courses that show adults, teens, and kids how to purchase and prepare nutritious foods in healthful, safe, and tasty ways. This can mean the difference between feeding families for just one night and making sure they have the knowledge, skills, and resources to prepare healthy meals for a lifetime.

    Volunteers are needed to teach classes, serve as a class assistant, or help with non-teaching positions. Monday-Friday 10 am - 7 pm; Saturday hours vary.
    Global Health Action Decatur Volunteers are needed to assist with activities related to an annual Hunger walk including: contacting prospective participants, giving info related to the event, sending information via fax, phone and direct mail, coordinating information sessions, etc. More Information
    MedShare Decatur Volunteers will take medical supplies donated by hospitals or manufacturers and sort them into specific categories so they can be shipped to hospitals/clinics around the developing world. More Information
    National Multiple Sclerosis Society - GA Chapter Atlanta Assist the fundraising department with promotion, organization and management of fundraising events such as the MS Walk and bike tours. General office help.
    Sickle Cell Foundation of Georgia, Inc. Atlanta Volunteers are asked to help with counseling, screening, and educating about sickle cell and other hemoglobin disorders. Training is available. More Information
    YMCA Decatur Need volunteers to help with various health related activities and with the other daily functions of the YMCA.

  • Boy Scouts of America Atlanta Work with boys ages 7 to 18 on a variety of skills from outdoor to career interest to first aid, etc.
    Culture Connect Various cities in Metro Atlanta Become a mentor to an immigrant youth! You will be matched with a 7-17 year old of your same gender who comes from a similar cultural background and speaks the same home language as you. You will be a role model and trusted friend to a child in need, participating in various fun and educational activities as well as helping with school work and just hanging out. Note: You must commit to meeting with your mentee four (4) hours a month (scheduled around your convenience) for one year More Information
    Decatur Cooperative Ministry Decatur Volunteers are needed to help at the Hagar House. Monday - Friday evenings from 5 - 9 pm. Volunteers will assist with homework, childcare, and help out in the computer lab. 
    Volunteers are also needed the second weekend of the month to serve as the overnight host - more information provided as needed by the agency. 
    Background check is provided by the agency. Orientation is required and usually held the third Mondays at 7 pm. Minimumlength of service is 4 months. The time can be divided into weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly commitment. Special training is required for lead volunteers and overnight hosts.
    Family Heritage Foundation Stone Mountain A volunteer organization that provides services to refugee families, including after-school tutoring, computer training, mentoring, assistance with English as a Second Language program, and office support.
    Fugees Family Scottdale Fugees Family, Inc. is a non-profit organization devoted to working with child survivors of war. They build upon the power of soccer to galvanize these kids by giving them the support and structure they need to realize their potential. Their programming has grown to include year-round soccer for 86 boys aged 10-18, after-school tutoring, a private academy, and an academic enrichment camp. Volunteers are needed to provide weekly tutoring sessions for one and one-half (1.5) hours each week to middle school and high school students. Note, you will need to speak with the agency to determine what day(s) during the week you would like to volunteer. Background check is required by agency; agency will complete. All volunteers must attend an orientation that will be scheduled by the agency.

    Junior Achievement of Georgia Various schools Help in providing services to educate and inspire young people to value free enterprise, understand business and economics and be workforce ready. Kindergarten through 6th grade students are involved with learning economic concepts which are presented in a series of 7 themes. More Information
    Literacy Volunteers of Atlanta Decatur Literacy program that teaches basic literacy or English for low-income children ages 4-13, enhancing their reading comprehension skills, as well as homework help as needed. More Information
    Little Debbie's Family Services, Inc. Decatur Provides residential care for troubled and homeless adolescent females between the ages of 15 and 18. Looking for trainer or tutors to help students in all academic areas to pass the GED test. Background check may be required. Volunteer must do if does not already have one. Orientation required - held first day of service.

    Soccer in the Streets Atlanta Soccer in the Streets empowers kids who lack opportunity by using soccer as a medium to make them employable adults. With their youngest participants, they teach basic life skills such as respect, communication, and teamwork in order to prepare them for success both on and off the field. Older participants take part in workshops and community projects that prepare them for the workforce and help them gain valuable work experience.

    Volunteers are needed in the field working directly with kids, typically weekdays after school hours, as well as in the office helping out with administrative tasks. Volunteers in the field will support trained staff in administering programming. 

    Background check required - agency does. Orientation required - typically held 2nd Monday of each month. Please note – minimum length of service is one semester!
    The Hirsch Academy Decatur Special needs school for children ages 5-13 who have social, emotional, or learning challenges. Also provides therapeutic support in addition to the academic program. Volunteers will assist in the special education classroom and therapeutic recreation program. Open Monday-Friday from 8:30 am - 3:30 pm. Volunteers must complete a background check, attend an orientation, and possibly receive some special training.
    The Literacy for Youth Foundation Ellenwood Volunteers will teach kids from grades K-12 the importance and essentials of financial literacy, healthy lifestyles, nutrition, exercise, and going green. Mentors will assist other volunteers with children during program activities, games, fundraising events, and special events.
    YMCA South Dekalb Need volunteers to work in the pre-school - children range in ages from birth up to 5 years old. You must be 21 years or older to volunteer at this location. Background check is required by the agency!
