Notes to Students:

  • Don't forget to come by the VKSU office to pick up your Service Verification Form.
  • Agency contact info will be provided with your Service Verification Form.
  • Students must then contact agency directly for days/times of volunteering availability.
  • Most agencies that deal directly with people on a one-on-one basis require a background check.
  • You cannot get credit for volunteering at your place of employment.
  • You cannot have family members to serve as your site supervisor!


American Red Cross Blood Services Southern Region Douglasville Purposes are to improve the quality of human life; to enhance self-reliance and concern for others; and to help people avoid, prepare for, and cope with emergencies. Volunteers needed to assist with blood drives and occasional special projects such as disaster relief, communication to military personnel, support for blood donors, first aid and CPR training, HIV/AIDS education, youth programs, health fairs, safety and disaster presentations. If completing hours for school, you must volunteer a minimum of 60 hours!!! Boys and Girls Club Douglasville Volunteers are needed to tutor children, help with homework and recreational programs.  Hours
      • Monday - Friday
      • 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Requirements
  • Orientation is required - coordinated around the volunteer's schedule
  • Background check is required - included in B&G application
  • Volunteers must be 19 years or older!!!
Cobb & Douglas Public Health Douglasville Need volunteers for the Bi-Annual Customer Satisfaction Survey from March 24 until May 2.
  • Kiosk Volunteers - volunteers will be responsible for assisting clients with completing a short survey and/or providing the clients with a link to the website to take the survey. Requirements include: basic computer skills; excellent customer service skills; some knowledge of SurveyMonkey would be great; and Spanish speaking is a plus!

Douglas County Literacy Council Douglasville Help provide free, private, confidential tutoring to functionally illiterate adults in Douglas County. Requirements:
  • Minimum length of service is two (2) hours per week.
  • Must attend 10 hours training before starting. (Will count toward volunteering hours.)
Douglas County Resource Alliance (Retardation Association)(DCRA) Douglasville D.C.R.A.’s purpose is to provide individualized, community-based quality services to people with developmental disabilities in way that will allow them to participate with their family, friends, and other natural support systems as they strive to reach their maximum potential and build their own way of life. General Information:
  • Volunteers needed to spend one (1) activity per month with a connected friend
  • Background check conduct by agency
  • Required to attend orientation and training as needed
  • Call matchee twice a month
  • Provide transportation to and from activity
  • Meet on quarterly or as needed basis with Volunteer Coordinator
Douglas County Task Force on Family Violence and Sexual Assault Douglasville Volunteers are needed to answer the crisis calls and serve as office volunteers. Office volunteers will come to the office and help by answering phones, doing research, and assisting the director. Crisis volunteers must complete 24 hours of training and attend a one-hour meeting each month. Crisis volunteers are needed during the week and on weekends. Volunteers are assigned victims to contact during their shift. On-call shifts during the week are 6 pm - 8 am and weekend shifts are 24 hours. Requirements:
  • Agency will complete background check
  • Orientation is required and held at various times
  • Must have a valid drivers licence and car insurance!
Georgia Organics Winston Help local farms and farmers with general farm duties! Great opportunities to get some fresh air!

Inner Harbour Hospital Douglasville Assist staff at this facility, which specializes in treating children and adolescents with significant psychiatric illness and impairment in behavioral, cognitive, familial and/or social functioning. Minimum length of service is 1 hour per week for a period of 6 to 9 months of service. Orientation (held once a month) and background check is required. Additionally, volunteers must get fingerprinted!
The Sheltering Arms Various Metro Atlanta Locations Volunteers assist teachers in the classroom, provide children one-on-one attention as they participate in learning activities, and read to children. By giving a young child your undivided attention, you help them to see the connection between block building and math, between feeding fish and science, between hearing a story and learning to read.

Requirements:

  • Background check is required!
  • Students must purchase the $52.00 fingerprint kit!
  • TB test (might be required)

Warehouse of Hope Douglasville Food pantry and clothing closet. Volunteers will collect, sort, and distribute food and clothing to the clients. Important Information:
  • Open Monday - Friday
  • All volunteers must arrive at 8:30 am!!!
