Notes to Students:
- Don't forget to come by the VKSU office to pick up your Service Verification Form.
- Agency contact info will be provided with your Service Verification Form.
- Students must then contact agency directly for days/times of volunteering availability.
- Most agencies that deal directly with people on a one-on-one basis require a background check.
- You cannot get credit for volunteering at your place of employment.
| American Red Cross Blood Services Southern Region | Douglasville | Purposes are to improve the quality of human life; to enhance self-reliance and concern for others; and to help people avoid, prepare for, and cope with emergencies. Volunteers needed to assist with blood drives and occasional special projects such as disaster relief, communication to military personnel, support for blood donors, first aid and CPR training, HIV/AIDS education, youth programs, health fairs, safety and disaster presentations. If completing hours for school, you must volunteer a minimum of 60 hours!!! More Information |
| Boys and Girls Club | Douglasville | A program that helps develop skills in children. Volunteers are needed to tutor children, help with homework and programs. Register for required orientation here. |
| Douglas County Literacy Council | Douglasville | Help provide free, private, confidential tutoring to functionally illiterate adults in Douglas County. Minimum length of service is 2 hours per week. (Must attend 10 hours training before starting. Will count toward volunteering hours.) |
| Douglas County Resource Alliance (Retardation Association)(DCRA) | Douglasville | Volunteers needed to spend 1 activity per month with a connected friend. Required to attend training as needed. Call matchee twice a month. Provide transportation or activity. Meet on quarterly or as needed basis with Volunteer Coordinator. More Information |
| Douglas County Task Force on Family Violence and Sexual Assault | Douglasville | Volunteers are needed to answer the crisis calls and serve as office volunteers. Office volunteers will come to the office and help by answering phones, doing research, and assisting the director. Crisis volunteers must complete 24 hours of training and attend a one-hour meeting each month. Crisis volunteers are needed during the week and on weekends. Volunteers are assigned victims to contact during their shift. On-call shifts during the week are 6 pm - 8 am, and weekend shifts are 24 hours. All volunteers must complete a background check that is provided by the agency. Interested volunteers must contact the agency to set up their time to volunteer or attend crisis training. |
| Inner Harbour Hospital | Douglasville | Assist staff at this facility, which specializes in treating children and adolescents with significant psychiatric illness and impairment in behavioral, cognitive, familial and/or social functioning. Minimum length of service is one hour per week for one semester. |
