Faculty, staff, and students are invited to participate. 

VKSU has both dated events and on-going opportunities in many areas of interest. The dated events are outlined below. Please review and then come to the VKSU office (enter at Student Center room 267) to let us know where you would like to volunteer and to get your Service Verification Form. Policies that are Effective Summer 2012:

  • Volunteers must register with VKSU prior to volunteering for any volunteer assignment.
  • Volunteers can only volunteer at agencies and/or events that have been approved by VKSU prior to their start date. Agencies and/or events cannot be approved after you have you begun volunteering and/or completed your volunteer assignment. VKSU reserves the right to remove and/or add an agency and/or event at any time.
  • All VKSU hours must be documented on a VKSU Service Verification Form that you obtain from the VKSU office prior to your volunteer activity.
  • Letters, emails, faxes, and/or phone calls from the individual agencies will not be accepted.
  • VKSU will not award volunteer credit to any volunteer who fails to follow these policies and procedures!

On-Campus Events

KSU ABLE Student Orginzation - KSU Campus
  • ABLE Empowerment Award
  • Help with cleaning up after the event, moving room decorations to the ABLE office in Student Development & ABLE cubicle on the 3rd floor in Student Development.
  • Thursday, April 17
  • 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
  • One (1) spot is open for this event.
KSU Culinary & Hospitality Services - KSU Campus
  • Farmers Market
  • Volunteers will help setup the market; assist vendors and customers with various needs; and close down the event at the end of the day.
  • Market is held every Wednesday starting March 19 until April 30
  • Setup starts at 11:30 am and close down is from 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm
  • You must stay for the entire shift! Shifts are between 4 to 5 hours of service!
  • International tuition waiver students can't volunteer for a total of more than six (6) hours of service for this assignment!
KSU Day of Service - Campus & Off-Campus (transportation provided off-campus)
  • Saturday, April 26
  • 8:00 am - 1:00 pm
  • Lunch will be served once you return to campus!!!
  • Volunteers will receive four (4) hours of credit for partcipating with this event!
  • Following sites are available:
    • Allatoona Creek Park Trail System: Volunteers are needed to cut roots, cut side hills, cut small trees, preform simple finish work on trails. Participants may also build small bridges and rock walls, cut branches, and smooth and compact trails.
    • Keep Cobb Beautiful: Volunteers will be needed to collect litter and trash between the outer ring of Town Center Mall.
    • Project Shoebox: The United Way has requested assistance with their ninth annual Project Shoebox. The United Way collects shoeboxes filled with toiletries, including toothbrushes, toothpaste, lotion, deodorant, lip balm, etc. The boxes are donated to homeless shelters for women and children throughout thirteen Georgia counties. Volunteers are needed to sort the boxes into gender/age and prepare them for distribution to the women and children at homeless shelters.
    • Alive Ministries, Inc.: Alive Ministries’ Save It Forward Initiative establishes food pantries in local schools and uses extreme couponing as a means of supplying & replenishment. Alive Ministries has partnered with 11 schools in the Cobb County School District & served over 8,000 children in need. Volunteers will be needed to sort and organize the food pantry at Alive Ministries.
    • YELLS Project: The YELLS Program is an After School youth development program focused on service and leadership. The Center provides a safe haven for youth in the Franklin Road Weed and Seed neighborhood. Volunteers are needed to clean and organize the facility that houses this program. Volunteers will also be asked to sort through donations.
KSU Department of Biology & Physics - KSU Campus
  • Students for Enviromental Sustainability (SES) Campus Workday
  • Participate in Learning & Doing in the Garden: making planting beds, setting out plants, building structures, weeding, pruning, ect.

KSU Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry - KSU Campus
  • NOYCE Retreat
  • The Robert Noyce Scholarship Program is funded by the National Science Foundation to help increase the number of K-12 teachers with strong science and mathematics content knowledge who teach in high-need school districts. As part of this national program, Kennesaw State University (KSU) and the Georgia Institute of Technology are collaborating to recruit talented science and engineering majors into careers teaching high school physics or chemistry.
  • Need volunteers to assist attendees with sign in, direct attendees to the classroom, and answer any general questions.

KSU Student Media - KSU Campus
  • Owl Connection Program
  • Assist Marketing Team with promoting Student Media, assembling and distributing (student-to-student) gifts bags, as well as distributing KSUSm publications including but not limited to: The Sentinel newspaper, Talon & Share magazine, KSU Student Handbooks & Planner, etc.
  • Opportunity is especially beneficial to students pursuing a degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Professional Sales, Communication, and Theater.
  • Tuesdays from January 14 - April 29 (Shifts: 9-11, 11-1, 1-3, 3-5)
  • Wednesdays from January 22 - April 23 (Shifts: 11-1 & 1-3)
  • Thursdays from January 23 - April 24 (Shift: 9-10:30)
  • Students volunteering for class, waiver, and court are not eligible for this volunter assignment. Personal volunteer hours only!!!

  • Need volunteers to serve as usher during the graduation ceremonies!

Alive Ministries, Inc. - Marietta
  • 100 Days of School Wrap Up
  • Looking for volunteers to work in the food pantry warehouse. Duties include: sorting through bins of food donations, marking food for expiration dates, and counting donated items.
  • Monday - Friday
  • 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
  • Some nights and weekends are available; very limited!
American Lung Association - Atlanta area
  • Fight for Air Climb
  • Need volunteers to assist with set up, registration, work in the first aid station, serve as stairwell monitors, be traffic directors, distribute refreshments & t-shirts, help be a floater between areas, and clean-up upon the conclusion of the event.

Be The Match (National Marrow Donor Program) - Atlanta (Atlantic Station)
  • Be The Match Walk + Run 2014
  • Volunteers may assist with the planning stages of the run, or on the actual day of the event. Seeking volunteers that can assist with refreshments, check-in, water stops, course marshals and more!

Catholic Charities - Smyrna
  • ESL Class Instructor/ESL Assistant
  • Lead small group of English Language Learners using materials provided or assist the Lead Instructor with a class.
  • Fridays from 9:00 am to Noon

  • New volunteers must complete a background check and orientation!
Cherokee County Elections & Registration - Various locations in Cherokee County
  • Election Day & Advance Voting
  • Volunteers will assist with various clerical duties and help register voters.
  • Election Day is Tuesday, May 20 (6am until last person has voted; after 7pm)
  • Special Saturday Voting is May 10 (8:30am until 4pm)
  • Advance Voting is Monday, May 12 until Friday, May 16 (8:30am until 7pm)
  • Sites in Canton, Ball Ground, and Woodstock! You decide your polling location!
City of Kennesaw - Multiple events in Kennesaw

Option #1

  • Outdoor Movie Series
  • Assist with set-up, surpervise attendees, distribute snacks, clean-up duties, and perform other tasks as determined by the Volunteer Coordinator.

  • Event is typically held in the evening!

Option #2

  • Swift-Cantrell Classic 5K
  • Help check in attendees, distribute t-shirts, serve as course monitors, cheer on runners/walkers, handout water, and perform other race related tasks as determined by the Volunteer Coordinator.

  • Race starts at 7:30 am (Volunteers will be needed before and after this time frame)
Cobb County Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs - Acworth

Ongoing Option

Cobb & Douglas Public Health - Marietta/Smyrna/Douglasville/Acworth
  • Bi-Annual Customer Satisfaction Survey from March 24 until May 2
  • Two Options:
    • Kiosk Volunteers - volunteers will be responsible for assisting clients with completing a short survey and/or providing the clients with a link to the website to take the survey. Requirements include: basic computer skills; excellent customer service skills; some knowledge of SurveyMonkey would be great; and Spanish speaking is a plus!
      • Locations/Dates/Times:
      • Marietta Health Center (Tues.-Thurs. from 10am-3pm)
      • Douglas Health Center (Tues.-Thurs. from 10am-3pm)
      • Smyrna Health Center (Tues.-Thurs. from 10am-3pm)

    • Data Entry Volunteers - Responsible for inputting data from paper surveys from outreach/community programs such as Enviromental Health, Safe Kids, and Babies Can't Wait. Requirements include intermediate/advanced computer skills, (i.e., experience using Excel and Access), knowledge of SurveyMonkey would be great, and data entry experience is a plus!

Crohn's & Colitis Foundation - Atlanta
  • Take Steps Atlanta Walk
  • Volunteers will be split up across a number of different stations including: set up, t-shirts/visors table, serve as course monitors, work the registration table, supervise kids in the Kids Corral, distribute food, and help clean upon the conclusion of the event.
  • Saturday, May 17
  • Race is early in the AM and assignment will conclude in mid-AM or afternoon.
EarthShare of Georgia (ESGA) - Atlanta area

Option #1

  • ESGA Earthday Leadership Breakfast at the Georgia Aquarium
  • Duties include, but not limited to the following: assisting at the registration desk; unloading supplies; set-up of displays; serving as a volunteer host; working as a floater in-between different assigned areas; and breakdown upon the conclusion of the event.
  • Wednesday, April 16
  • 6:30 am - 11:00 am
  • Must be 21 years or older to volunteer for this event!!!

Option #2

  • Earthday Party at Defoor Centre in Midtown Atlanta
  • Duties include, but not limited to the following: loading and setting up supplies; serving as a VIP Host; asssting at the registration desk; working the silent auction area; helping with crowd control; and breakdown upon the conclusion of the event.
  • Thursday, April 24
  • Shifts are available from 1:00 pm to 11:30 pm
  • Volunteer Coordinator will provide you with more information regarding the shifts when you register!
  • Must be 21 years or older to volunteer for this event!!!
Foundation Fighting Blindness - Atlanta (Piedmont Park area)
  • 8th Annual Atlanta VisionWalk
  • Sunday, April 27 (Positions available from 8:00 am - 2:00 pm)
  • Assignments:
    • Early Morning Set-Up - setup tents, display t-shirts, and put up route signs (Arrive at 8:00 am)
    • Walker Registration - check in walkers and collect donations (Arrive at 10:00 am)
    • T-Shirt Table - distibute t-shirts to walkers that have a t-shirt ticket (Arrive at 10:00 am)
    • Refreshments - pass out snacks and drinks to walkers and monitor the area for cleaniness (Arrive at 10:00 am)
    • Route Monitor - spread out along the walk route and cheer on the runners/walkers (Arrive at 10:30 am)
    • Children's Area - monitor the Moon Bounce, assist with temporary tattoos, and pass out popcorn (Arrive at 10:00 am)
    • Post Clean-Up - clean up the walk area and take down route signs (Arrive at 1:30 pm)
Georgia Games - Dallas & Kennesaw
  • Looking for volunteers to assist with the following sports events:

Golden Soldiers - Marietta
  • Big Day Out
  • Duties include operating carnival games, working in the inflatable area, assisting with setup and breakdown, and overall having lots of fun!

  • Volunteering requires a $15 donation for your t-shirt, unlimited water, and parking! (Food trucks will be on site seeling lunch!)
  • All volunteers must arrive by 9:00 am for check-in and orientation!
Hayes Elementary School - Kennesaw
  • Spring Fling
  • Fun event for children and parents! There will be games, crafts, food and lots of fun! Volunteers will help set-up the event, surpervise games/activities, serve food, and clean upon the conclusion of the event.

  • Volunteers are needed to help work the information table at this event.
  • Minimum of two (2) hour shift is required! Can volunteer for more than one shift!

Lupus Foundation of America - Atlanta area
  • 2014 Walk to End Lupus at Piedmont Park in Atlanta
  • Duties range from: set-up for the event, assiting in education and vendor tents, registration clerk, and cleaning upon the conclusion of the event.

  • Help kids to develop soccer skills like ball control, passing, footwork, shooting, and overall technique by assisting with the monitoring of practices throughout the week and with logistics of moving goals, staking goals, and directing parents to practice areas.
  • Season: Throughout the Spring semester
  • Times: Varies and depends on assignments!
YMCA (Johnson Ferry) - Marietta

Option #1

  • Middle School Night
  • Provide great activities for our Middle Schoolers that involve moving, shaking, and running around instead of sceens and joysticks. Assist staff with supervising/faciliting dodge-ball, basketball, batting practice and lots of pre-teen having some good, clean fun.
  • Dates: (All Saturdays)

  • Times: 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Option #2

  • Volleyball Season
  • Volunteers needed to help with the recreational league teamed through Cobb Atlanta Juniors Volleyball. Help with skills development and building team work.
  • Requirment: one practice and one game each week of the season.
  • Dates: Throughout the Spring semester

Option #3

  • Indoor Soccer
