  • AIDS Walk Atlanta Need volunteers to recruit walkers/runners over the phone for the Annual 2014 AIDS Walk.

    General Information:

    Atlanta Ronald McDonald House Sandy Springs Volunteers are needed greet and welcome families and visitors, register families, answer telephone, help keep kitchen and public areas organized, assist volunteer groups with the evening meal, provide home-cooked meals for families.

    FOCUS understands and supports the unique needs of families with children who are medically fragile or have significant developmental or physical disabilities. Volunteers are also needed to provide administrative assistance in the Atlanta office.

    Help protect animals from cruel environments through education, adoptions, clinic, lost and found, and the animal shelter. Days and times of service will vary according to the location and assignment!

    Requirement:

    • Lift 10 lbs or more

    • Volunteer a minimum of 5 to 8 hours of service per month for a six (6) month time commitment

    Forgotten Paws Dog Rescue 
    Atlanta Volunteers will set up/breakdown cages, clean, feed/water, walk, socialize with the dogs & cat, and assist with adoptions.

    Georgia Canine Companions for Independence Various Canine Companions for Independence is a non-profit organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing highly trained assistance dogs and ongoing support to ensure quality partnerships. Volunteers are only needed to assist with special events that are scheduled throughout the year. Events will be listed under the Dated Events section on the VKSU website when open for volunteers.
    German Shepherd Dog Rescue Roswell Volunteers needed to assist with special scheduled weekend events and weekdays/nights to make phone calls. Events will be listed under the Dated Events section on the VKSU website when open for volunteers.
    Georgia SPCA Johns Creek Volunteers will set up/breakdown cages, clean, feed/water, walk, socialize with the dogs & cat, and assist with adoptions.

    LifeLine Animal Project College Park Volunteers are needed in the following areas: caring for the animals in the Dog House and Kitty Motel, Spay & Neuter Clinic, Pet Adoptions at local shelters, Transporting, Construction/Painting/Landscaping, and Administrative type work.

    Second Chance Animal Adoption

    Roswell Volunteer will clean, feed/water, walk, assist with adoptions, and socialize with the dogs and cats living in a no-kill shelter.

    Fernbank Science Center Atlanta Fernbank Science Center is an instructional unit of the DeKalb County School System.  Fernbank Museum of Natural History is operated as a private not-for-profit organization by Fernbank, Inc.  Opportunities are open to volunteer in the herb garden, assist with the various daily operations, and provide support to the public on open house nights in the observatory.

    Georgia Aquarium Atlanta Volunteers are needed for gallery interpretation, special events, preparing food for fish/animals, educational, helping school groups tour the aquarium, behind the scenes support, diving, etc.

    WonderRoot, Inc. Atlanta WonderRoot is an Atlanta-based non-profit arts and service organization with a mission to unite artists and community to inspire positive social change.

    Options & Requirements:

    • Weekly position - staff the art center and commit to fulfilling a five (5) hour weekly shift for at least six (6) months or service.
    • Special events - assist with special projects and events that happen in and out of the art center.

    Hands on Atlanta Atlanta Volunteers can register for a variety of different volunteer opportunities throughout the Metro Altanta area that range from working with children to serving food at a homeless shelter. More Information
    HomeStretch Roswell Homestretch guides homeless working families with minor children in North Metro Atlanta toward increased self-reliance and stability by providing life skills training, mentoring, and supportive housing. Volunteer opportunities are available in the following major areas: administration, property, and family programs. 
    • General office work – answer phones, greet visitors, and assist staff with clerical projects
    • Special projects – create newsletters, direct mailings, and stuffing envelopes
    • Computer work – as needed for special and on-going projects (using Excel and Word)
    • Assist with fund-raising events held throughout the year.
    • Assist with renovation and landscaping projects at their duplex and town homes. Includes demolition, painting, cleaning, lawn work, and maintenance.
    • Teach a life-skills class to our participants on topics relevant to self-sufficiency. Topic examples include budgeting, checkbook balancing, and home/car maintenance.

    Human Rights Campaign Atlanta Volunteers serve as advocates for the LGTB community by participating in community outreach and educational programs.     Jewish Family Services Atlanta Jewish Family & Career Services of Atlanta provides health, career and human services to support and enhance the well-being of individuals and families across all ages, faiths, cultures and lifestyles.     Living Room Atlanta Living Room serves individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS in metro Atlanta by providing subsidized supportive housing, housing referrals and housing-related emergency assistance. Our goal is to help our clients’ access and maintain permanent, affordable housing. Volunteers help in a variety of ways depending on their interests and the needs of the organization.

    SafeRide America Atlanta As a SafeRide America volunteer you can play a key role in our mission to pro-actively prevent impaired driving before it can happen by helping us out with numerous non-driving projects.     • Attend an orientation that is held in a group setting every 3 months, but orientations can be scheduled before the group setting!

    Project Open Hand Atlanta Open Hand helps people prevent or better manage chronic disease through Comprehensive Nutrition Care, which combines home-delivered meals and nutrition education as a means to reinforce the connection between informed food choices and improved quality of life.

    Wellspring Living - Virginia Highland Atlanta Volunteers will work in a thrift store. Duties include the following: assisting customers, collecting donations, sorting donations, tagging items, and cleaning the store.

  • A.G. Rhodes Home Atlanta Long-term nursing home that needs volunteers to participate in different activities, including playing cards, playing board games, book clubs, and scrapbooking.

    Aseracare Hospice Atlanta Volunteers will work with clients who are living in a nursing home, including sitting reading, and playing games with the residents.

    • Orientation required - held Mondays or Tuesdays by appointment.
    • Volunteers needed everyday; mornings, afternoons, early evening.
    • Minimum length of service is to visit with patients at least one hour per session.
    BEEP Baseball Atlanta Volunteers needed to help guide visually impaired players, serve as safety monitors during play, and assist players with drills.
    • Most players are from The Center for the Visually Impaired in Atlanta!
    • Baseball sessions are held every Saturday from 9:00 am - Noon
    • If possible, agency would like for you to commit to at least three (3) Saturdays!
    Chastain Horse Park Atlanta Our therapeutic program is part of each rider’s (disabled adult or child) treatment program to achieve functional goals. Volunteers assist riders and lead the horses during therapy sessions.

    Requirements:

    • Attend an orientation that is held once a month or every 3rd Saturday from 10:00 am to Noon
    • You may participate as a volunteer for any one (1) hour lesson or multiple lessons. We ask that you consider volunteering for
      at least one lesson each week.
    • Sessions are held during the week/weekend at various times of the day!
    FOCUS Atlanta Alpharetta FOCUS understands and supports the unique needs of families with children who are medically fragile or have significant developmental or physical disabilities. Need individuals to assist with respite care for children who have been diagnosed with a variety of developmental delays and volunteer with the Teen & Adult Groups.

    • Teen & Adult Group meets once a month on a Saturday for 1 or 2 hours
    • Respite Care meets once a month on a Saturday from 10am - 2pm
    Gentiva Hospice North Fulton area
    End of life hospice care - visit patients and assist families with various needs!

    • Flexible volunteering times: evenings, weekdays, and weekends.

    Make-A-Wish Foundation Atlanta Volunteers needed to work directly with wish children & their families. Days/times are flexible as volunteers are allowed to determine time/date that works best with their and families' schedules. Also, looking for bi-lingual (Spanish) volunteers!

    General Information:

      • Background check required - cost to volunteers is $12.
      • Orientation is required!
      • Must be at least 21 years or older for some opportunities!
    Senior Citizen Services Atlanta area Opportunities are available in the following areas:
    • Meal delivery - deliver meals to seniors throughout most areas of the city Tuesday - Saturday!
    • Home repair projects - up to 20 people per house can be scheduled every Saturday or during the week in the summer

    Central Night Shelter Atlanta Central Night Shelter offers a meal, shelter for the night, and bagged lunches the next morning to those individuals in need. Volunteers can choose to cook a meal, make lunches, spend the night, or do all three. Only men stay at this shelter, but women are more than welcome to volunteer. Overnight volunteers help set up, eat the evening meal with the men, and take turns staying awake through the night. Dinner volunteers make the meal ahead of time and deliver and serve the men. Lunch volunteers will create the bagged lunches before the men leave the shelter in the morning. Volunteers must attend an orientation that is held when you arrive the first day of service.
    Crossroads Community Ministries Atlanta Volunteers are needed for the following assignments:
    • Crossroads Kitchen - help prepare and serve a morning meal for about 250 homeless guests. One-time and ongoing volunteer opportunities are available.

    Create Your Dreams Atlanta CYD is a youth development program that supports students emotionally, academically, and socially from elementary school through high school, college, and young adult.
