Notes to Students:

  • Don't forget to come by the VKSU office to pick up your Service Verification Form.
  • Agency contact info will be provided with your Service Verification Form.
  • Students must then contact agency directly for days/times of volunteering availability.
  • Most agencies that deal directly with people on a one-on-one basis require a background check.
  • You cannot get credit for volunteering at your place of employment.
  • You cannot have family members to serve as your site supervisor!


Amedisys Hospice Service
Lawrenceville
Work with hospice patients, family members, and staff members through direct care, running errands, reading, yard or house work, or clerical/administrative support. Requirements:
  • Orientation is required and held when the volunteers are available!
  • Background check is required and agency will complete!
  • TB test required annually!
Hours:
  • Monday - Sunday
  • Daytime and evening hours available!
Boys & Girls Club Lawrenceville After-school program for kids 6-18. Volunteers are needed to assist with tutoring, homework, group games, and/or mentoring programs. Tutoring involves helping students in their subject of need. The subjects have been chosen based on report card grades and parent agreement. With the mentoring program, KSU students will be paired with one student from the club that has been referred to the mentoring program. Time commitment:
  • Tutoring - two (2) hours per week
  • Mentoring - one (1) hour a week
Hours:
  • Tutoring: Monday - Friday (5pm - 7pm)
  • Mentoring: Monday - Thursday (3pm-7pm)
  • HW Helper: Monday - Thursday (3pm - 5pm)
  • Games Assistant: Monday - Thursday (4pm - 7pm)
Center for Pan Asian Community Services (CPACS) Metro Atlanta CPACS offers health and social services to Asians and Pacific Islanders (API) in the greater-Atlanta area.

Volunteer opportunities are available to assist with Youth Programs. Volunteers will serve as tutors/homework assistants at various locations in Dekalb, Fulton, Cobb, and Gwinnett counties.
Volunteers opportunities to also enter data into the agency database, assist with administrative duties around the office, and work directly with the clients if possessing Asian language skills. Requirements & Hours:
  • Must get fingerprinted at a local courthouse so the agency can run a FBI background check! You are responsible for the check!
  • Orientation is required - typically held during the workday
  • Monday - Friday
  • 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm
  • Looking for ongoing volunteers and not short-term volunteers!!!
Furkids Buford Norcross Two opportunities are available:
  • Thrift Store - Sort clothing, assist customers, tag items, and clean the store front.
    • Hours:
    • Monday - Friday (11am - 6pm)
    • Saturday (11am - 4pm)
  • Pet Adoptions/Adoption Center - help set up cages, walk dogs, feed & water, socialize with the animals, and assist adoptees. Adoptions are held at Petsmart.
    • Site: Mall of Georgia
    • Hours will vary!!!
Gentiva Hospice Gwinnett End of life hospice care - visit patients and assist families with various needs! Important Information:
  • Flexible volunteering times: evenings, weekdays, and weekends.
  • Background check required - agency will do.
  • TB test required - agency will assist
  • 3-hour training required, then additional as needed.
Georgia Organics Loganville Help local farms and farmers with general farm duties! Great opportunities to get some fresh air! General Information:
  • Legacy Alpaca Farm
  • Volunteers on as needed basis!
Georgia SPCA Suwanee and Buford Four opportunities:
  • Sadie's Place Thrift Store (Buford) - duties include light vacuuming, dusting, occasional washing of the front glass windows/doors, and customer service.
    • Tuesday - Saturday
    • Noon - 4:00 pm
    • Must commit to a four (4) hour shift
    • Must volunteer a minimum of fifteen (15) hours or service!
  • Kennel Volunteer - clean cages, feed/water the animals, walk the dogs, and assist with laundry.
    • Kennel is open everyday during the week
    • Hours of service will vary!
  • Office Worker - customer service, greet clients, answer phones, and computer based duties!
    • Must volunteer eight (8) or more hours a month
    • Sometimes office volunteers are asked to assist in the kennel!!!
  • Vaccine Clinic- assist with traffic control, run the snack bar area, assist the vet or techs, and serve as a cashier!
    • Twice a month - generally on a Saturday
    • 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Global Soap Project Norcross Sort, clean, cut, and package soap. The purpose of the program is to improve global health and save lives by providing discarded/recycled soap to vulnerable populations. Service Hours:
  • Monday - Friday
    • 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
  • Saturday (2 shifts)
    • 9:00 am - Noon
    • 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Goodwill of North Georgia Duluth
Duties include the following:
  • Placement Call Specialist - contact particpants to document the progress they've made with the job search.
  • Computer Support Assistant - format resumes, covers letters, search online, and fax/copy documents.
  • Class Instructor - teach basic skills classes, including basic computers, how to upload resumes, and other job skills and search courses.
  • Assist with special projects like job fairs and job research projects.
  • Special need for volunteers that speak Spanish.
General Information:
  • Background check by the agency
  • All volunteers must complete a drug screen provide by the agency!
  • Service hours will vary by assignment and center hours!
Gwinnett County Public Library Various locations in Gwinnett Work in various areas within the library. Hours vary according to branch location.
Habitat for Humanity Lawrenceville Need volunteers to work in the ReStore location. Volunteers will be responsible for cleaning, organizing, and assisting the customers. Requirements:
  • Background check by agency
  • Orientation is required and held 1st day of service
  • Minimum of at least a four (4) hour period once a month!
Hours:
  • Monday - Saturday
  • 10:00 am - 2:00 pm (AM shift)
  • 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm (PM shift)
Junior Achievement of Georgia Various schools Help in providing services to educate and inspire young people to value free enterprise, understand business and economics and be workforce ready. Kindergarten through 6th grade students are involved with learning economic concepts which are presented in a series of 7 themes. More Information
Math Is My Friend, Inc. Suwanee Math Is My Friend, Inc. is a non-profit agency dedicated to providing math skills training to Elementary, Middle, and High School students. Our programs help students improve their Math scores on standardized tests and grades in Math. General Information:
  • Volunteers must complete an application
  • Complete a background check by the agency
  • Attend an orientation
  • Need volunteers on Saturdays
  • 8:30 am - 10:30 am
Norcross Cooperative Ministries Norcross Volunteers will assist in the food pantry, clothing closet, receive and sort donations, perform various office duties, and help with client intake. Hours:
  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday
    • 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
  • Saturday
    • 9:30 am - 1:00 pm
  • Exact hours of service will be determined by the volunteer assignment!
SNAP-2 IT Duluth & Buford Volunteers care for the basic needs of the animals at the Adoption Center, shelter, or adoption days by providing love, fresh food and water, and cleaning the cages. Adoption volunteers will also assist with setting up and taking down cages. Two Volunteer Options:

SOS - Daffy's Pet Soup Kitchen Lawrenceville A pet food bank serving North and Central Georgia. Helping to feed hungry pets and keep families together. Volunteers are needed to assist in the warehouse sorting and handing out pet food. Hours:

St. Vincent de Paul Society Duluth, Lawrenceville, Lilburn Volunteers are needed for a number of programs, including food pantries, clothing closets, counseling services, after-school programs, health care needs, housing, and English-as-a-second-language classes.Programs vary according to the location. More Information
The Chelsea Foundation, Inc. Metro Atlanta area Looking for someone who is well versed in social media and would like to use The Chelsea Foundation as their method of jump starting a career. Must be savy in all forms of social media! Requirements:
  • Orientation is required - held based on volunteers available time!
  • Minimum length of service = 1 semester
The Sheltering Arms Various Metro Atlanta Locations Volunteers assist teachers in the classroom, provide children one-on-one attention as they participate in learning activities, and read to children. By giving a young child your undivided attention, you help them to see the connection between block building and math, between feeding fish and science, between hearing a story and learning to read.

Requirements:

Wellspring Living Thrift Store Duluth Volunteers will sort and price donations (clothes, accessories, and furniture), help customers on the sales floor, and run the cash register. The proceeds that are collected from the sales at the thrift store help assist women involved in human trafficking. Hours:
  • Monday - Saturday
  • 10:00 am - 7:00 pm
