Below is more information for some of our volunteer opportunities.

Atlanta Humane Society Atlanta The following volunteer opportunities are available:
adoption volunteer, greeter/shop assistant volunteer, special event volunteers, wearing the Hoparound Hound costume character for special events, animal admission volunteer, administrative volunteer, and pet facilitated volunteers.

Interested volunteers must attend one volunteer training and one mentor session. Training session is 2.5 hours. Mentor session is 2.5 hours and available Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. AHS requests a donation of $25 to help offset expenses, including volunteer t-shirt, apron, and leash.
Bartow History Center Cartersville Hours are:
  • Monday-Wednesday 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
  • Thursday 10:00 am - 8:00 pm
  • Friday and Saturday 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
BEATS Canton Volunteers will help lead and sidewalk the horses during therapy sessions. Volunteers are also needed to help support the facility, horses, and program administration. This is accomplished through: maintenance work, gardening, feeding/watering the horses, and clerical work.

Requires a regular commitment for direct program assistance. 

Volunteer opportunities available daily - hours vary. No background check required. Interview held prior to scheduling orientation. Hours vary, but kids come Monday-Saturday.
Cherokee County Animal Shelter Canton Vols needed for sweeping, mopping, folding laundry, and some yard work. Tuesday-Saturday from 10 am-5 pm.
Cherokee County Humane Society (CCHS) Acworth Volunteers are needed to help at one of the off-site pet adoptions, assist in the thrift store, and volunteer in the new dog park, Bark Park.

Fancy Feline Rescue of the South Powder Springs Their shelter is located in Powder Springs. Volunteers must give a minimum of six (6) months to one (1) year commitment.

PetSmart Adoptions:

Forgotten Paws Dog Rescue Acworth - Volunteer assignments include the following: cleaning kennels/crates, walking the dogs, cleaning the yards, maintaining the lawns, assisting with adoption day, and general maintenance repairs.

- Kennel Care & Maintenance: Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 am-4:00 pm

- Adoption Days: held at various locations in Cobb County - Saturdays from 11:30 am-4:00 pm

- Kennel care & maintenance: Sunday - anytime

Furkids PetSmarts & Petcos in Metro Area Volunteers care for the basic needs of the animals at the Adoption Centers or shelter by providing love, fresh food and water, and cleaning the cages.
Volunteer opportunities that do not require interaction with the animals are also available. For example, front desk, reception, laundry and kitchen attendants, phone and email task force volunteers, and marketing the agency at special events/festivals.
Anyone who is interested in volunteering must complete the online application before you can start. Volunteers must also complete an orientation. Don't forget to also come to VKSU and get your Service Verification Form.

Good Mews Animal Foundation Marietta - Must commit to a minimum of 10 hours of volunteering. On-going volunteers preferred

- Cats only

- Cleaning, feeding/watering, assisting with adoptions, and socializing with the animals. Clean & Feed committee works both mornings and late afternoons, 365 days/year; adoptions are Saturday 10-4 and Sunday 1-4. Must be 21+ to work at adoptions.

Mostly Mutts Kennesaw Help set up & break down kennels, walk dogs, brush dogs, and talk to the public about adoptions.

Ahimsa Atlanta Volunteer opportunities include: staffing information booths at various festivals, distributing brochures, assisting with fundraising events/marketing/special events, volunteer coordination, and assisting with client services. Note: Minimum length of service is is a 3-month commitment for on-going volunteers. Events in various locations in Metro Atlanta area. Orientation required - held online. Background check required for transport volunteers and crisis line volunteers.

Devereux Georgia Treatment Network Kennesaw Volunteers are needed Monday - Friday from 9 am - 5 pm weekday afternoons from 4-8 pm, weekends from 10 am - 5 pm.

Background check is required; agency will complete. You cannot volunteer if you have a felony conviction.

Volunteers much complete an orientation and training program. Length and duration of training depends upon the volunteer assignment. Orientations are held by appointment Wednesdays at 2 pm and Fridays at 10 am.

Volunteers must complete a drug test, ppd test, online classes, CPR and other training (provided by agency). Minimum age to volunteer is 21 years.
Foster Care Support Foundation Roswell Two locations in Roswell:
  • Foster Care Support distribution center. Shifts are:

HERO for Children, Inc. Norcross Volunteer service needs include:
  • Mentors for our mentoring programs
  • Buddies for our Saturday life skills program
  • Volunteers at one-day events (HERO for a Day, Holiday of HERO)
  • Assistance with fundraising efforts

MUST Ministries Canton Volunteers needed Monday - Friday from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. No background check required. Orientation required. Must be 18.
Horse Rescue Relief and Retirement Fund Cumming Volunteers will assist with barn chores, including mucking stalls, cleaning grounds, general maintenance, and light repair work. Additionally, volunteers will feed, groom, and handle the horses. There are some volunteer opportunities to help with fundraisers. All volunteers must attend an orientation that is held on the 2nd Saturday of each month. They also offer a basic handling class for those without horse experience.
SafeRide America Atlanta Volunteers needed in many ways: chase car drivers, help at local events, web/facebook/twitter development, fundraising, office help, and more. 

Volunteer drivers needed every night from 6 pm on. Special event times vary, but are usually during the evening or weekend and last 3 to 5 hours. Office help needed Monday-Friday 10 am - 6 pm; data entry help needed Wednesdays-Saturdays 7 pm - 3 am. 


SafeRide reimburses for gas. Valid drivers license and car insurance required. Data entry training is Wednesdays and Saturdays at 7 pm. Other orientations held first night. Background check for volunteer leaders.
The Center for Family Resources Marietta Volunteer opportunities are available in the following areas: food pantry assistant, GED tutor, intake assistant, and job lab coach.

World Peace Cafe Sandy Springs Volunteers will prepare and serve food to paying customers. Additionally, volunteers will clean before the restaurant opens and after it closes. The money that is collected from this restaurant is donated to the Buddhist Center that is located in Sandy Springs.

Becca's Closet Kennesaw Volunteers are needed to serve as personal shoppers for girls in need. Volunteers will help the girls find a dress that fits them and rack new donations. Many times the agency also needs help with the upkeep of the house such as cleaning, mowing the yard, and raking leaves.

Requirements:
  • Orientation is required - held first day of service.
  • Must arrive 15 minutes before the start of your session.
  • Minimum length of service is 3-hour session.
Opportunities to serve as personal shoppers during the fall will not be available until early or mid-August. Opportunities during the spring will not be available until January.
Books for Africa Smyrna Volunteers utilize sorting carts to sort book donations into appropriate age-level and categories for shipment.

Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta Atlanta Volunteers are utilized to assist clients with picking out furniture and loading it out of the warehouse onto the client’s vehicle. Volunteers are also used to help sort and package linens and kitchen items and loading and unloading their donation trucks.

Volunteers are needed to stock shelves, move furniture, clean donations, set up displays, and assist customers.

Children's Restoration Network Roswell Volunteers are needed to assist with their Project One-on-One Mentoring Program. Volunteers will serve once a week for an in-shelter, academic mentoring program for homeless children in shelters located in Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Dekalb, Forsyth, Fulton, and Gwinnett counties. Teams of volunteers meet with groups of children to help with homework and basic skills, while developing a safe, positive relationship. As volunteers are recruited, the program will be expanded to additional locations.

Shepherd Center Atlanta As of Fall 2011 - Volunteers needed to help spinal cord injury patients with school work. Many patients are not able to use their hands and need someone to write for them. Others need a lot of help to understand work. You will act as a teacher.

Adoptions in Kennesaw: Volunteers will prepare and handle paper work, talk with potential adopters, learn about proper animal care, set up and pack up adoption site, set up and keep clean cages, walk dogs, sociaizel with the animals, and meet other animal lovers.

Shelter: These volunteer opportunities will allow you to be more hands on with the animals! Volunteers will feed/water, clean cages, leash walk the dogs, participate in trainings, tend to laundry needs, let dogs in and out of play yards, socialize with the dogs, and organize the vans for adoption days.
