Below is more information for some of our volunteer opportunities.

Atlanta Humane Society	Atlanta	The following volunteer opportunities are available: adoption volunteer, greeter/shop assistant volunteer, special event volunteers, wearing the Hoparound Hound costume character for special events, animal admission volunteer, administrative volunteer, and pet facilitated volunteers. Interested volunteers must attend one volunteer training and one mentor session. Training session is 2.5 hours. Mentor session is 2.5 hours and available Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. AHS requests a donation of $25 to help offset expenses, including volunteer t-shirt, apron, and leash.
Bartow History Center	Cartersville	Hours are: Monday-Wednesday 10:00 am - 5:00 pm Thursday 10:00 am - 8:00 pm Friday and Saturday 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
BEATS	Canton	Volunteers will help lead and sidewalk the horses during therapy sessions. Volunteers are also needed to help support the facility, horses, and program administration. This is accomplished through: maintenance work, gardening, feeding/watering the horses, and clerical work. Requires a regular commitment for direct program assistance. Volunteer opportunities available daily - hours vary. No background check required. Interview held prior to scheduling orientation. Hours vary, but kids come Monday-Saturday.
Cherokee County Animal Shelter	Canton	Vols needed for sweeping, mopping, folding laundry, and some yard work. Tuesday-Saturday from 10 am-5 pm.
Cherokee County Humane Society (CCHS)	Acworth	Volunteers are needed to help at one of the off-site pet adoptions, assist in the thrift store, and volunteer in the new dog park, Bark Park. Thrift Store hours: M-F 10a-8p, Sa 10a-7p, Su Noon-6p. Bark Park: M-F 10a-7p, Sa 10a-5p, Su Noon-5p. Cobb County Animal Shelter	Marietta	Hours: Tuesdays - Saturdays from 9:30 am - 5:30 pm and Sundays from 2:00-5:00 pm. Volunteers must visit the shelter and speak with a Kennel Supervisor before they can start volunteering. No volunteer hours given for fostering pets. Volunteers needing community service for court are required to report to the shelter at 6:00 am with the kennel crew.
Cobb County Humane Society	Marietta	Cleaning, feeding/watering, walking, assisting with adoptions, and socializing with the animals. Volunteers needed Monday through Friday from 10 am until 2 or 3 pm. Note: You must attend an orientation before you can start volunteering - held once a month. Note: No volunteer hours given for fostering pets.
Dog Pack Rescue	Canton PetSmart	Cleaning, feeding/watering, walking, assisting with adoptions, and socializing with the animals. Every other Saturday from 11:00 am-4:00 pm Note: No volunteer hours given for fostering pets.
Fancy Feline Rescue of the South	Powder Springs	Their shelter is located in Powder Springs. Volunteers must give a minimum of six (6) months to one (1) year commitment. PetSmart Adoptions: Douglasville: last weekend of each month Austell: first full weekend of each month Note: No volunteer hours given for fostering pets.
Forgotten Paws Dog Rescue	Acworth	- Volunteer assignments include the following: cleaning kennels/crates, walking the dogs, cleaning the yards, maintaining the lawns, assisting with adoption day, and general maintenance repairs. - Kennel Care & Maintenance: Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 am-4:00 pm - Adoption Days: held at various locations in Cobb County - Saturdays from 11:30 am-4:00 pm - Kennel care & maintenance: Sunday - anytime - Note: Minimum of 2-hour shift - Note: No volunteer hours given for fostering pets.
Furkids	PetSmarts & Petcos in Metro Area	Volunteers care for the basic needs of the animals at the Adoption Centers or shelter by providing love, fresh food and water, and cleaning the cages. Volunteer opportunities that do not require interaction with the animals are also available. For example, front desk, reception, laundry and kitchen attendants, phone and email task force volunteers, and marketing the agency at special events/festivals. Anyone who is interested in volunteering must complete the online application before you can start. Volunteers must also complete an orientation. Don't forget to also come to VKSU and get your Service Verification Form. Note: No volunteer hours given for fostering pets. The shelter hours are M-F 9a-5p and Sa-Su 9a-Noon. Students need to contact the agency to get more information about volunteering for the opportunities that do not require interactions with the animals.
Good Mews Animal Foundation	Marietta	- Must commit to a minimum of 10 hours of volunteering. On-going volunteers preferred - Cats only - Cleaning, feeding/watering, assisting with adoptions, and socializing with the animals. Clean & Feed committee works both mornings and late afternoons, 365 days/year; adoptions are Saturday 10-4 and Sunday 1-4. Must be 21+ to work at adoptions. - You must attend an orientation before you start volunteering (usually held first Sunday of the month at 2 pm; may change because of a holiday or special event) - Note: No volunteer hours given for fostering pets.

McKenna Farms	Dallas	- Volunteers are needed to help with the horses - feed, clean stalls, and turn horses in and out. - Additionally, volunteers are needed to help with therapy - lead and/or sidewalk with the therapist, horse, and client. - Note: A meeting between the student and McKenna Farms personnel is required before your hours begin to make certain this is a good fit. - Hours: Monday-Friday from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Misfit Haven Animal Rescue	Acworth and Canton	Every Saturday and Sunday at the PetSmart locations in Acworth and Canton. From 11:00 am-4:00 pm. Note: No volunteer hours given for fostering pets.
Mostly Mutts	Kennesaw	Help set up & break down kennels, walk dogs, brush dogs, and talk to the public about adoptions. Volunteers must wear a Mostly Mutts t-shirt - can purchase for $6 or they will loan you one to wear for your shift. Weekend Volunteer Hours Every Saturday: Shifts are 10:00 am - 2:00 pm and 1:30 - 5:30 pm at PetSmart on Barrett Parkway just west of I-75 Must complete entire shift Note: No volunteer hours given for fostering pets.

Paulding County Animal Control	Dallas	Volunteers needed Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 8 am - 4 pm Background check required - agency will do.
Second Chance Animal Rescue	Roswell PetSmart	Volunteers needed seven days a week at Canton rescue ranch. 10 am - 6 pm. Note: No volunteer hours given for fostering pets.
SOS - Daffy's Pet Soup Kitchen	Lawrenceville	- Thrift Store and Warehouse are both located in Lawrenceville - Thrift Store is open Wednesday - Saturday 1:00 - 7:00 pm and Sunday 1:00 - 6:00 pm. - Warehouse is open 2-3 days per month - days/times vary. Agency will provide info to students about volunteering times.
Ahimsa	Atlanta	Volunteer opportunities include: staffing information booths at various festivals, distributing brochures, assisting with fundraising events/marketing/special events, volunteer coordination, and assisting with client services. Note: Minimum length of service is is a 3-month commitment for on-going volunteers. Events in various locations in Metro Atlanta area. Orientation required - held online. Background check required for transport volunteers and crisis line volunteers. Note: No volunteer hours given for fostering pets.
Cherokee Family Violence Center	Canton	Volunteers neeed Monday-Friday from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm; Tuesday and Thursday 6:30-9:00 pm. Background check required - agency will complete Orientation required if dealing directly with clients. Orientations held quarterly. More info here
Devereux Georgia Treatment Network	Kennesaw	Volunteers are needed Monday - Friday from 9 am - 5 pm weekday afternoons from 4-8 pm, weekends from 10 am - 5 pm. Background check is required; agency will complete. You cannot volunteer if you have a felony conviction. Volunteers much complete an orientation and training program. Length and duration of training depends upon the volunteer assignment. Orientations are held by appointment Wednesdays at 2 pm and Fridays at 10 am. Volunteers must complete a drug test, ppd test, online classes, CPR and other training (provided by agency). Minimum age to volunteer is 21 years.
Foster Care Support Foundation	Roswell	Two locations in Roswell: Foster Care Support distribution center. Shifts are: Tu, Th, Sa 10 am - 2 pm W, F 10 am - 1 pm Fostering Hope Bargain Resale. Shifts are: W, Th 10 am - 2 pm F, Sa either 10 am - 2 pm or 1 - 5 pm No background check required. Orientation held first day of service.
Hands on Atlanta	Metro Atlanta	- Some agencies require an orientation - held on-site right before the service project. - Volunteers needed every day at various agencies. - Go to the Hands On Atlanta site to register for a volunteer assignment and then come to the VKSU office to get your Service Verification Form.
HERO for Children, Inc.	Norcross	Volunteer service needs include: Mentors for our mentoring programs Buddies for our Saturday life skills program Volunteers at one-day events (HERO for a Day, Holiday of HERO) Assistance with fundraising efforts Administraive helpers needed M-F 9a-5p. Note: Minimum age to volunteer is 22 years old. Background check required - agency will complete. Interview required. May need training session.
MUST Ministries	Canton	Volunteers needed Monday - Friday from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. No background check required. Orientation required. Must be 18.
Horse Rescue Relief and Retirement Fund	Cumming	Volunteers will assist with barn chores, including mucking stalls, cleaning grounds, general maintenance, and light repair work. Additionally, volunteers will feed, groom, and handle the horses. There are some volunteer opportunities to help with fundraisers. All volunteers must attend an orientation that is held on the 2nd Saturday of each month. They also offer a basic handling class for those without horse experience.
SafeRide America	Atlanta	Volunteers needed in many ways: chase car drivers, help at local events, web/facebook/twitter development, fundraising, office help, and more. Volunteer drivers needed every night from 6 pm on. Special event times vary, but are usually during the evening or weekend and last 3 to 5 hours. Office help needed Monday-Friday 10 am - 6 pm; data entry help needed Wednesdays-Saturdays 7 pm - 3 am. SafeRide reimburses for gas. Valid drivers license and car insurance required. Data entry training is Wednesdays and Saturdays at 7 pm. Other orientations held first night. Background check for volunteer leaders.
The Center for Family Resources	Marietta	Volunteer opportunities are available in the following areas: food pantry assistant, GED tutor, intake assistant, and job lab coach. World Peace Cafe	Sandy Springs	Volunteers will prepare and serve food to paying customers. Additionally, volunteers will clean before the restaurant opens and after it closes. The money that is collected from this restaurant is donated to the Buddhist Center that is located in Sandy Springs. Tuesday-Friday Lunchtime and Dinnertime Saturday and Sunday 4-5 hour shifts from 8:30 am-4:30 pm Orientation is required

Atlanta Community Food Bank	Atlanta	Volunteer Needs: Product Rescue Center – sorting, inspecting, packing items for distribution. TWTh – 9am–noon, 1-4 pm, and 6-8:30pm Sa – 9am–noon, 1–4pm Community Gardens – weeding, seeding, planting, tilling, cleaning, clearing, etc. Shifts can be scheduled Monday - Saturday during daytime hours. Becca's Closet	Kennesaw	Volunteers are needed to serve as personal shoppers for girls in need. Volunteers will help the girls find a dress that fits them and rack new donations. Many times the agency also needs help with the upkeep of the house such as cleaning, mowing the yard, and raking leaves. Requirements: Orientation is required - held first day of service. Must arrive 15 minutes before the start of your session. Minimum length of service is 3-hour session. Opportunities to serve as personal shoppers during the fall will not be available until early or mid-August. Opportunities during the spring will not be available until January.
Books for Africa	Smyrna	Volunteers utilize sorting carts to sort book donations into appropriate age-level and categories for shipment. Monday-Thursday from 9 am - 3 pm 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month Orientations held at beginning of each shift
CAMP	Austell	Volunteers needed for: Food Pantry – stock pantry shelves and pull food orders for the clients Clothing Closet - help clients with clothing selections, sort incoming donations, sort and package school supplies, hygiene products, and other miscellaneous items Volunteers needed Monday – Friday from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm New volunteers must attend an orientation – dates and times offered vary. Dress for Success	Atlanta	Personal Shopper – work one-on-one with a client to assist her in selecting the appropriate business suit for her interview. Monday – Friday from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm New volunteers must attend an orientation – held 2nd Saturdays
Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta	Atlanta	Volunteers are utilized to assist clients with picking out furniture and loading it out of the warehouse onto the client’s vehicle. Volunteers are also used to help sort and package linens and kitchen items and loading and unloading their donation trucks. Orientation is required and held the first day of service. Minimum length of service is 3 hours.
Habitat	Atlanta (Builds & ReStore) Canton (ReStore)	Volunteers are needed to stock shelves, move furniture, clean donations, set up displays, and assist customers. Canton: Tuesday – Friday from 10:00 am-5:00 pm & Saturday from 9:00 am–3:00 pm Atlanta ReStore: Volunteers needed Tuesday – Saturday from 8:30 am–5:00 pm to work in office. ReStore sales support and loading dock volunteers can work a full day (8:30 am-4:00 pm) or half-day shifts (8:30 am-1:00 pm or Noon-4:00 pm) Tuesdays-Saturdays. Amedisys Hospice Service	Kennesaw Cartersville Lawrenceville	Two types of volunteer opportunitites: Direct Care - running errands, reading, respite, yard work, or housework Clerical / Administrative Support - assist in office and other clerical needs Monday-Friday from 8 am-5 pm / afterhours / weekends Orientation required - set up around your schedule - 2 short parts Background check required - they do their own even if you already have one TB test required - they will reimburse the KSU student health clinic cost of $5 Prefers volunteers stay 2-3 hours each visit.

A.G. Rhodes Health & Rehab	Marietta Atlanta	Work with individuals that are living in an assisted living home. Includes playing games, reading to the patients, and assisting with light housework. Volunteers needed every day from 9 am - 1 pm and 2 - 4:30 pm. Background check required - agency does. Volunteer application and orientation are required - orientations held daily with appointment.
VistaCare Hospice	Atlanta	Volunteers needed 10 am - 4 pm Monday - Sunday. Agency runs background check. Orientations held every 6-8 weeks on a Saturday from 10 am - 2 pm. Orientation is required and held on an individual basis and dependent on the volunteers schedule.

Chattahoochee Nature Center	Roswell	Background check required if volunteering in the education area of the Center - Agency provides. Orientations held as needed.
Kennesaw Mountain Trail Club	Kennesaw	Every 2nd Saturday of the month from 8:30 am - 1 pm, except December, January, and February hours are Noon - 4 pm Volunteer work is strenuous and involves hiking to the work site. Complete application on website prior to attending event: www.kennesawmountaintrailclub.org Brief orientation on site day of event. National Park Service form should be completed by volunteer - in VKSU office.

Cobb-Douglas Community Service Board	Marietta	Looking for volunteers to develop and organize recreational activities for adolescents with addictive diseases living in a residential treatment program Commitment - at least 3 months, serving 2 hours a week (you can determine the day/time) Applicants must attend an orientation & training, complete a background check, obtain a drug screen, and get a current TB test (provided by agency).

NASA (North Atlanta Soccer Association)	Soccer fields located in Marietta & Kennesaw	Background check is required for anyone who has direct contact with the children. One-time-only volunteers who are not working directly with the children do not need to complete a background check.
Atlanta Children's Shelter	Atlanta	Orientation 1st Thursday from 2:30-5 pm. All new volunteres must present a background check that has been completed within the last 30 days to begin volunteer service. Minimum length of service - complete 15-20 hours over a period of 3 months. No evening, weekend, or holiday hours available. Information about volunteer opportunities

Genesis Shelter	Atlanta	Child Development Center Includes activities from rocking infants to helping with 4 year olds. Volunteers will basically entertain the children while their parents are focusing on career development. The Child Development Center is open on weekdays. Hours are 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. Shifts are usually 3 hours or more, once or twice a week. Organizing the store room Weeknight Playgroups Volunteers will play games, make crafts, and interact with the children who stay at Genesis while their parents are attending classes. Children aged 1-12 are in this playgroup. Monday & Wednesday nights from 6:15-7:30 pm All volunteers must complete a background check by the agency and attend an orientation that is held one-on-one or in a group.
Cobb County Adult Education	Marietta	Programs include: Adult Education (ABE) Pre-GED classes, Adult High School (AHS) General Education Development (GED), and English as a Second Language (ESL). Volunteers will tutor students in the areas of math, reading, languages, and GED prep classes. All volunteers must attend a volunteer orientation so they can observe the different grade levels. Once you have determined what grade level you would like to help teach, you must commit to meet with your group one (1) time a week for six (6) months. Classes are held Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs mornings (9:00 am-Noon) and evenings (6:00-9:00 pm).

Children's Restoration Network	Roswell	Volunteers are needed to assist with their Project One-on-One Mentoring Program. Volunteers will serve once a week for an in-shelter, academic mentoring program for homeless children in shelters located in Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Dekalb, Forsyth, Fulton, and Gwinnett counties. Teams of volunteers meet with groups of children to help with homework and basic skills, while developing a safe, positive relationship. As volunteers are recruited, the program will be expanded to additional locations. Volunteer opportunities are also available for special events that are scheduled throughout the year. Shepherd Center	Atlanta	As of Fall 2011 - Volunteers needed to help spinal cord injury patients with school work. Many patients are not able to use their hands and need someone to write for them.
