Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities

Notes to Students:

  • Don't forget to come by the VKSU office to pick up your Service Verification Form.
  • Agency contact info will be provided with your Service Verification Form.
  • Students must then contact agency directly for days/times of volunteering availability.
  • Most agencies that deal directly with people on a one-on-one basis require a background check.
  • You cannot get credit for volunteering at your place of employment.
  • You cannot have family members to serve as your site supervisor!

Boys & Girls Club - Paulding County Dallas Volunteers are needed to serve as tutor/homework helpers, includes grade levels 1st - 12th, with the greatest need in the elementary grade levels! Also, volunteers are needed to assist Club staff with various recreational programs.


      • Monday - Friday
      • 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm


  • Background check is required - included in B&G application.
  • Please note, it can take up to ten (10) to fourteen (14) business days to complete the background check process!
  • Orientation is required - coordinated around the volunteer's schedule and held after the background check is completed!
Cobb/Paulding Adult Education Center Dallas School program that helps all students 16 and older who are not enrolled in a conventional high school program learn the educational skills they need to become successful adults. Volunteers will tutor students in the areas of math, reading, languages, and GED prep classes.


  • All volunteers must attend a volunteer orientation so they can observe the different grade levels.
  • Once you have determined what grade level you would like to help teach, you must commit to meet with your group one (1) time a week for six (6) months.
  • Classes are held Monday-Thursday mornings (9:00 am-Noon) and evenings (6:00-9:00 pm).
Jennifer's Pet Rescue Hiram Volunteers are needed to set up cages, help walk, feed/water, and socialize the dogs at weekend adoptions.
  • Site: Petsmart in Hiram
    • Saturday from 9:30 am - 6:30 pm
    • Sunday from 10:45 am - 6:30 pm
  • Must volunteer the entire day of service!
McKenna Farms Therapy Services Dallas Provides physical, occupational, and speech therapy services for children with special needs utlizing horses! Following options are open:
  • Volunteers are needed to help with the horses - feed, clean stalls, and turn horses in and out. 
  • Additionally, volunteers are needed to help with therapy - lead and/or sidewalk with the therapist, horse, and client. These opportunities are sometimes limited!


  • Meet with a representative from McKenna prior to your first date of service!
  • Complete a volunteer applciation

Paulding County Animal Control Dallas Volunteers are needed to assist with cleaning, feeding/watering, walking, medicating, bathing, assisting the public with finding animals to adopt, and socializing with the animals.


  • Complete an application packet and background check by the Paulding County Marshal's office.
  • Orientation is held upon the completion of the background check
  • Must volunteer a minimum of eight (8) hours a month!

Paulding County DFCS (Family and Children Services Division) Dallas Volunteers are needed to assist with various administrative duties, and to maintain the cleanliness of the visitation rooms that are utilized by the clients.


  • Volunteers are needed Monday - Friday between the hours of 9:00 am - 6:00 pm.
  • Agency will require a background check only if volunteers have direct contact with the clients.
  • Need to commit to volunteer a minimum of ten hours.

Hiram Volunteer opportunities are available to assist office staff with various administrative and clerical duties. Please note, volunteers are required to give a day a week of service during the hours of 9:00 am – 1:00 pm. Additionally, volunteers are needed to serve as Peer Counselors. These counselors help support women during their whole pregnancy with various issues or concerns that might come up. Individuals must be 21 year or older to serve as a Peer Counselor. Peer Counselors are required to attend a 6 week training program, complete a background check, and commit to one year of service.
SIMS Adventure Academy STEM/READ Program Dallas & Hiram Need students to assist with the after-school program. Help children with homework and one-on-one tutoring.

St. Vincent de Paul Society Dallas Work in a clothing closet - collect, sort, tag, steam, sell, and distribute clothing. More Information
Shepherd's Rest Ministries Dallas Shepherd's Rest provides a safe house and services to women and children who have been displaced from their home due to domestic violence. Volunteer tasks may include, but not limited to, the following: light office duties, warehouse work, fundraising events, lawn maintenance, children activities, and other tasks as assigned by the Volunteer Coordinator.


  • Background check is required - must complete at the Paulding County Sheriff's Department. No cost to the volunteer.
  • Orientation is required - held at the facility (dates and time varies)
Transitions Hospice Care Paulding Work with hospice patients, family members, and staff members through direct care, running errands, reading, housework, or clerical/administrative support.

  • Volunteers can choose location, time, and days to volunteer.
  • Background check by agency
  • TB skin test required - agency will assist
  • Orientation held at convenience of volunteer. 
Victim Witness Assistance Program Dallas Volunteers will help with contacting victims and witnesses through phone and mail to check on status before and after court case. Volunteers will also help the Victim Witness Program organize special events such as community outreach, community fairs, community meetings, and through other networking opportunities. Opportunities are limited due to the number of interns the office currently has at that time!
YMCA Hiram Need volunteers to work in the pre-school (children range in ages from birth up to 5 years old.) Opportunities include: assisting teachers, reading to students, helping with snack time, etc.
