The Kennesaw State University Pool
After 40 years, the KSU Pool has closed its doors.
Because of the heavy demand for space for fitness programs, the decision to close the pool and use the space for other purposes was approved by the President’s Cabinet. Much discussion occurred among the Intramural and Recreation Staff, HPS administration, Plant Operations, and Student Government regarding issues of liability, maintenance and funding. The issue was brought to the Vice President for Student Success and Enrollment Services, the Vice President for Business and Finance, the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean of Student Success, and the Director of Plant Operations.
The decision to close the pool was a difficult one, but believed to be in the best interests of the University community and KSU students.
Plans are underway to design an aquatic center that will best meet KSU’s future recreational and academic needs. The future aquatic center is part of the KSU Master Plan and will become a reality once funding is obtained. The University administration recognizes the value of a pool to the KSU community and will work towards meeting the goal to bring a new aquatic center to this campus.
The current pool space will be used to expand the Intramural Group Exercise program that has become very popular over the last few years and continues to grow. Three group fitness rooms will be constructed which will allow us to add more diverse classes to the schedule as well as offer those classes at various times throughout the day to give students more flexibility as to when they can participate.
