Our Student Life Philosophy

Kennesaw State supports and encourages participation in co-curricular activities as an integral part of your total education. The decision is yours - to get a degree or an education. Any active student involved in student groups or volunteering in the community can attest to the learning acquired and the satisfaction experienced through involvement. By combining the skills you develop through co-curricular involvement and the knowledge gained in the classroom, you will be much better prepared in enjoying college, getting that job and developing your total potential.

The benefits are many: a sense of achievement, self development and growth, leadership skills and values, such as problem solving, communication, and organization. You can expand your circle of friends, better balance your academic life and just enjoy yourself.

College provides the best setting for you to explore your potential, take more risks, and try out a new experience or idea. We believe student activities are a classroom, but without those cinder block walls. Almost as many groups exist as there are students and ideas. Kennesaw State is a mosaic of groups. In addition to the benefits mentioned, many groups pay stipends and some offer internship credit.

How do I take the plunge?
First of all, remember that most organizations are far more nervous about recruiting you than you may be about meeting them. They really do want new members and are eager to answer your questions and explain their activities and purposes.
Attend a group’s meeting - you’re under no obligation to join the group. Complete a “Join Us” form, available on this website - see the Forms section. Visit the Student Life Center in the student center, Room 274.

Sorry, no excuses. It’s easy - and important - to get involved.

What companies really want,” said one employer, “is someone with potential -- and that means a graduate with the ability to think critically, communicate effectively, and solve problems imaginatively.”
These are the very skills that student activities provides.
Student activities offer real challenges and real life scenarios. Besides preparing you for the job hunt, participation teaches self confidence, poise and sportsmanship. Involved students learn tolerance and understanding for people, and satisfaction of accomplishing a goal.
Now is a good time to start thinking about how your activities are going to play a role in your career. Already? Sure. Employers have certain things they’re going to look for as far as your extracurriculars go.

You already know that employers want students who do well academically. They also want students who are interesting. To a large extent, an opinion of how interesting you are will be determined by what you do when you’re not in class. Your extracurricular activities can play a big part in distinguishing you from other applicants.

Employers want to see students who rise to leadership positions in interesting activities.

They want to see a student who is sports reporter for the school newspaper as a first-year student, assistant sports editor as a sophomore, managing editor as a junior, and editor in chief as a senior. The way to impress a future boss is to demonstrate that you can stick with something long enough to excel to the top. You want to show that you can be a leader.

Here’s your chance to lead.

You’re the "student" in student life.
Kennesaw State will help you take charge of your future. A college degree means more career opportunities and a greater earning potential. But it takes some creativity, planning and preparation.

Involvement in student life is an opportunity for you to experience activities outside of the classroom that will contribute to the success of your education at KSU.

Find your voice at a Student Government meeting, find answers during an interview for The Sentinel newspaper, and find yourself in one of over 100 student groups. Discover your passions and test your values. Build your body, strengthen your mind, and develop positive interpersonal relationships. Start a new organization, or become part of one. Help plan a special event. Learn good human relations skills as you meet new friends and work with others. You’ll never be here again. Now’s the time to create a rich college experience for yourself before you take that giant leap into life after college.

But before taking that leap, take a few steps along with us. Get involved.
