
Dr.
Michael L. Sanseviro was named Dean of Student Success in
October 2010. Michael joined the KSU family as the first
director of residence life in January 2004, establishing a
new department at KSU. He served as interim dean prior to
assuming the permanent role. During his time as director of
residence life at KSU, Michael established and provided the
initial funding for the Residence Life Endowed Scholarship
Fund, which provides scholarships to support housing
expenses for incoming freshmen who enhance the diversity of
the on-campus living experience and otherwise might not be
able to afford campus housing.
Prior to KSU, Michael
worked at Georgia Perimeter College, Lawrenceville campus in
the Gwinnett University Center (which is now Georgia
Gwinnett College) as director of student life. While at GPC,
Michael also served for one year as Student Services
Associate at the Board of Regents of the University System
of Georgia office, and advised the statewide Student
Advisory Council, comprised of SGA leaders from across all
state institutions. Prior to GPC, Michael worked at Georgia
State University, initially assisting with athlete services
for the Olympics in 1996 then serving as the first complex
director for the newly constructed GSU Village housing
complex.
Michael is originally
from Merrick, Long Island, NY and moved to Georgia in 1986
to pursue his BA at Emory University, which he completed in
1989 with majors in Educational Research, Philosophy &
Religion. He was the youngest graduate that year from Emory,
at 19 years old. Michael worked briefly in banking for C&S
Bank (now part of Bank of America), then completed his MS in
Higher Education Administration at Florida State University
in 1991. Michael also worked on coursework toward an MBA at
Polytechnic University, and then later finished his Ph.D. at
Georgia State University in Educational Policy Studies in
2006.
Michael also teaches in
KSU's University College, and is a senior faculty member for
Keller Graduate School of Management. Prior to joining the
University System of Georgia, Michael worked at North
Carolina Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount, North Carolina,
and at Polytechnic University in Farmingdale and Brooklyn,
New York. Michael's most recent publication was an article
in an international housing journal on public-private
partnerships in student housing.
Michael is active in
numerous professional organizations, frequently presenting
at conferences. He served as president for the Georgia
Housing Officers, who honored him in October 2008 with the
Excellence in Housing award for his career achievements. He
was also honored by the Georgia Governor’s office for
outstanding customer service, receiving an award in January
2010. Over the years, Michael has received awards for
outstanding professionalism and leaderships from North
Carolina Wesleyan, Georgia Perimeter College, and Kennesaw
State University. In Spring 2009, KSU established the “Dr.
Michael L. Sanseviro Passion for Excellence Award,” naming
Michael as the first recipient.
In addition to his
professional activities, community service involvement
includes serving on the supervisory committee of the board
of directors of LGE Credit Union, and on his community HOA
board of directors. Michael is also co-advisor to the KSU
chapter of Golden Key International Honour Society, who
honored him with the regional advisor of the year award at
the summer 2010 international summit. Michael enjoys
travelling, and especially cherishes opportunities for
international engagement. In January 2009, Michael attended
the first Global Housing Summit in Hong Kong, China,
attending as the sole representative from the state of
Georgia. |
