Q: How many hours a week can my SALT student work?
A: According to Human Resources guidelines, student
assistants may not work more than 20 hours per week.
Q: How many hours a semester can my SALT student work?
A: Your student may work as many hours a semester as needed
as long as they do not exceed the hours approved for your
project.
Q: How much does my SALT student get paid?
A: $8.00 per hour
Q: Can I use a SALT student that is working another
on-campus job?
A: Yes, if the other job is a student assistant position at
the same rate of pay. The SALT student may not be a student
assistant and a temporary staff employee at the same time.
Q: Can I use more than one student on a project?
A: Yes, as long as you do not exceed the total number of
hours allotted for your project.
Q: Can I use my SALT student for special class activities?
A: No.
Q: How can I get an exemption from using a student in the
SALT pool?
A: You must write a letter explaining why you want to go
outside the SALT pool and what special qualifications the
student has. The letter must be sent to the Vice President
for Student Success and Enrollment Services for final
approval.
Q: When does the program officially start and end?
A: The SALT program is funded from October 1 to June 30.
Q: Can my project be extended into the Summer term?
A: Only to June 30th, the end of the fiscal year.
Q: Can I begin a project in the summer?
A: This is an exception. You must write a letter explaining
why you want to begin a project in the summer and
there must be funding available.
Q: Can I have more than one SALT project?
A: Normally one SALT project is funded per faculty person;
there may be exceptions if funds are available.
