College Level Examination Program (CLEP)

College-Level Examination Program (CLEP)

The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) gives you the opportunity to receive college credit for what you already know by earning qualifying scores on any of 33 examinations. Earn credit for knowledge you’ve acquired through independent study, prior course-work, on-the-job training, professional development, cultural pursuits, or internships. KSU students can earn up to a maximum of 30 credit hours through CLEP. KSU does not grant credit for all CLEP Exams offered. Click here for a list of CLEP exams that KSU accepts.(pdf)

KSU is a “Limited” test site which means that we administer CLEP Exams to KSU students only. If you are not a KSU student and wish to take a CLEP Exam, go to "Test Centers" to search for an “Unlimited” test site near you. KSU students may also take CLEP Exams at “Unlimited” test sites.

CLEP Exams are timed (90 minutes) computerized exams and are completed in one sitting. However, there is one exception to this rule.  Students who wish to earn credit for English 1101 must take and pass the Composition Modular Exam and at a future date; an in-house Optional Essay. Once a student passes the CLEP Composition Modular Exam, they are eligible to schedule their Essay Exam at a future date. Student’s must take and pass both the Composition Modular Exam and the Essay Exam to receive credit for English 1101.

CLEP sends student’s test scores to the KSU Office of the Registrar within 4 weeks after testing. CLEP requires candidates to wait a minimum of six (6) months to retake a CLEP Exam.
