1st Place
Student: Fielding Etheridge
Location: Wu Tai Shan, China

2nd Place
Student: Teigan McIntosh
Location: Kampala, Uganda
Title: Classroom View
Description: “This photograph was taken while visiting a school in Kampala. The children were very shy, but they loved seeing the pictures of themselves on my digital camera.”

3rd Place
Student: Ann Nguyen
Location: Ollantaytambo - Cusco, Peru
Title: La Jovencita
Description: “The photo captures a candid moment with a local Andean girl sitting right outside of the gates of Ollantaytambo in traditional clothing and her connection to the camera is piercing.”

Category: Natural or Manmade Beauty

1st Place
Student: Cynthia Tatis
Location: Maras - Cusco, Peru
Title: Belleza de las minas del sal
Description: “I was taken aback by the natural beauty, and the people walking across it so easily was a validation of how accustomed the locals are to have the salt mines as a natural resource.”

2nd Place
Student: Paula Maia Fernandes
Location: Transcendent Passion of the River at the Yuyuan
Title: Yuyuan Garden – Shanghai, China
Description: “Peaceful at first sight but there is a lot going on if you transcend your thoughts. The river falls in love with its surroundings and transcends its margins to reproduce the beauty of the little temple and nature.   The red flowers gracefully translate the love story at the Yuyuan Garden.”

3rd Place
Student: Lauren Luoma-Whitley
Location: Pamukkale, Turkey
Title: Pamukkale: Gates to the Cotton Castle
Description:  “Pamukkale is situated in southwestern Turkey, and is thusly named for the calcium deposits that drape down its sides.  Often mistaken for snow, the calcium forms pools at the top, which are known as baths of rejuvenation.”

Category: Cultural Identity

1st Place
Student: Mary Zaher
Location: Istanbul (Old City)
Title: Spice Bazaar

2nd Place
Student: Tracy Barahona
Location: Beijing, China
Title: Cultural Identity
Description:  “This photo was taken just after I contemplated eating the scorpion. I was just about to until I noticed the legs moving. I wasn’t aware until later in the trip that they do cook and fry the scorpion before selling it to you.”

3rd Place
Student: Davia Cranshaw
Location: Chinghero, Peru
Title: Solitude in the countryside
Description:  “After we had just walked out of a beautiful church in Chinghero, I saw this man walking down a set of stairs and he seemed stoic, and with the countryside I felt the openness was in opposition to his expression. Although you can’t see his face, his posture and the countryside explain it all.”

Honorable Mentions

Location: Ilha do Mel
Title: Fishing on Honey Island
