Program Description:
This program provides an intensive two-week study of the Americas from a global perspective. Join 50 students from 20 different nations at Seggau Castle near Liebnitz, Austria to study American identities, cultures, politics, histories, literatures, and films. This summer school approaches the terms “America” and “American” in their hemispheric context and seeks to ground students in the interdisciplinary field of inter-American studies. Students will attend 2 keynote addresses by prominent scholars in the field of inter-American studies and 8 plenary lectures by professors of film, literature, art, sociology, and law during the summer school’s morning lecture block. Each student will choose a specific seminar stream (film and society; politics, law, and security; or literature), and every afternoon they will attend their chosen seminar which will be taught by an international faculty. The evening program will include film screenings, informal “meet the professor” lectures, and free time in the castle’s courtyard, café, and pool.
