Student Teaching Abroad Costa Rica Fall 2010
Program Description
Students complete 12 hours of credit in their student teaching semester in the appropriate grade and content area in their education major. Placements are available in PK-12 classrooms at the Guanacaste campus and the Escazu campus of Country Day School in Costa Rica. Country Day School offers a U.S. curriculum taught in English and is accredited.
Costa Rica is a friendly, democratic and peaceful country. The official language of Costa Rica is Spanish. During free time, students can explore and visit the great variety of Costa Rican ecosystems, including tropical rainforests, mountain cloud forests, volcanoes, jungles, and two unique coast lines, the Caribbean and the Pacific.

Program Dates
August 7-November 24, 2010 (75 school days to meet student teaching requirement)
Program Cost:
$1450 paid to KSU at registration.
Additional estimated expenses paid by each student are approximately $700 for airfare and $1400 for room and board. Other expenses may include: elective weekend travel, hotels, public transportation, and some meals.

Housing:
Students live in close proximity to the Guanacaste campus in studio or shared apartments and in shared housing apartments or with host families at the Escazu campus.

SA 4490: Student Teaching Abroad (12 credit hours) Available in elementary and early childhood, middle, secondary, and P-12 content areas.

Faculty Background
Dr. Sandy Bryan directs the Student Teaching International Study Abroad Programs at KSU and coordinates international field experience currently in six countries for the Bagwell College of Education and PTEU. Dr. Bryan has worked in 5 international PK-12 schools in Costa Rica and developed a Student Teaching Center in Costa Rica for an educational grant from the Virginia legislature.
